At Least I'm Not as Sad
fun. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Have you ever wondered about our old nu-metal friends and what became of them?
Turns out I saw them a couple of days ago,
They were laughing and drinking and smoking and singing.

C'mon, can you count all the notches in your belt?
I'd rather not, let's just say I'm starving myself.

Baby, put your name down on a piece of paper,
I don't want no savior baby, I just wanna have a good time

Oh, oh, At least I'm not as sad as I used to be.

And they said,
"Hey Nate, yeah, it's been a while,
Are you gonna sing?"
And I began to smile and I said,
"You should've seen me a couple of years ago,
I was laughing and drinking and smoking and singing."

C'mon can you count all the loves that didn't last?
It's such a gas when you bring up the past.

Baby, put your name down on a piece of paper.
I don't want no savior baby
I just wanna get it out.

Oh oh, oh, at least I'm not as sad as I used to be.
Oh oh, oh, at least I'm not as sad as I used to be.
At least I'm not as sad as I used to be.

And they say we would've seen you two years ago
Had you stuck around or come out to a show,
But youth's taken over by rock and roll,
While we were laughing and drinking and smoking and singing

So I left, That is it. That's my life, nothing is sacred.
I don't keep friends,I keep acquainted, I'm not a prophet, But I'm here to profit.

That's s all,I'm gone! That's my life, nothing is sacred.
I don't fall in love, I just fake it.
I don't fall in love. I don't fall in love.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to fun.'s song At Least I'm Not as Sad explore the themes of nostalgia, self-deprecation, and acceptance. The song begins with the singer reminiscing about old friends from the "nu-metal" days and noting how they are now having a good time while drinking and singing. The singer then shifts the focus to themselves, asking if the listener has ever counted the notches in their belt, implying how they have been reckless in the past. However, instead of dwelling on past mistakes, the singer points out that they are starving themselves and not falling into the same patterns again.

The second verse follows a similar structure, with the singer asking if the listener can count all the loves that didn't last, and declaring that they just want to have a good time and not be saved by anyone. The chorus is catchy and upbeat, with the singer acknowledging that they are not as sad as they used to be. The tone is somewhat bittersweet, as the singer recognizes how they used to be more carefree, but also accepts that they have grown up.

The bridge of the song brings back the theme of nostalgia, with the singer regretting not seeing their friends "two years ago" and noting how "youth's taken over by rock and roll." The final lines of the song are somewhat nihilistic, with the singer declaring that they don't keep friends, don't fall in love, and don't pretend to be a prophet. Overall, the lyrics to At Least I'm Not as Sad are introspective and thought-provoking, raising questions about how much we change over time and how we measure our own happiness.

Ikr! I like listening to the album on repeat, it's very entertaining. Not only is the instrumental perfect for a musical context, but the lyrics can really get your attention. They tell a story you wouldn't want to miss. Someone really needs to write a good musical based on Aim and Ignite. I definitely wouldn't be stingy paying to watch that
