Morituri Te Salutant
Battleroar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My glory is passing through victory
My bravery will be rewarded
One day I will pass all this misery
And free I will stand to this world

I spent all my life into slavery
Hoping to see the next dawn
I am here to kill every enemy
And salute the man on the throne

My dream is to travel in foreign lands
I have dreamed that long before
I'll try to forget all this blood on sand
And mournings will sound here no more

But all these dreamed things are so far away
I'm only a gladiator
Perhaps these could be my last fighting days
And the crowd will shout for more

MORITURI TE SALUTANT

Under the stars
I see a vision a chariot of light
Heading towards me
And I realize it's time for me
To fly high in the sky
I hail you now as I die

Overall Meaning

The song "Morituri Te Salutant" by Battleroar speaks of a gladiator's journey from slavery to the arena and his ultimate death. The opening lines "My glory is passing through victory, My bravery will be rewarded, One day I will pass all this misery, And free I will stand to this world" suggest that the gladiator's only hope is to win battles and gain glory before he can be free from his slavery. He sees victory as his only way out of the misery that he has been living in all his life. The lines "I am here to kill every enemy, And salute the man on the throne" suggest that his only purpose is to fight and win, and to pay homage to the emperor, who has the power to decide his fate.

In the second stanza, the gladiator dreams of escaping his life of bloodshed and traveling to foreign lands. He hopes to forget the battles he fought and the blood he spilled in the arena. However, he realizes that these dreams are far away, and he is only a gladiator. He fears that his days of fighting may be numbered and the crowd will demand more from him, possibly leading to his death. The final line "MORITURI TE SALUTANT" is a Latin phrase meaning "those who are about to die salute you," the traditional salute of gladiators before they entered the arena. The last two lines, "Under the stars, I see a vision, a chariot of light," refer to the gladiator's vision of a better life beyond death.
