Had to Hear
Real Estate Lyrics
I'm out again on my own
A reflection in the chrome
Of an adding machine
It's been so long
My mind is drawing a blank
Don't know if I can go back
But to live out this dream
It's just my luck
I call you up
I had to hear you just to feel near you
I know it's not true
But it's been so long
I know it's wrong
I know
I don't need the horizon to tell me where the sky ends
Its a subtle landscape where I come from
I'm out again on my own
A reflection in the chrome
Of an adding machine
It's been so long
I call you up
I had to hear you just to feel near you
I know it's not true
But it's been so long
I know it's wrong
I know

Way too few people know of this song’s existence. I truly feel it’s one of the greatest songs every recorded. Timeless.

This band, and the album this is from (Atlas), is flat out awesome. My college-age son turned me on to these guys and their music. Their music is catchy as hell, so atmospheric and loaded with images that harken back to The Byrds, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Feelies, and others in that "jangly pop" genre. Fresh sounding and just pulls you in. Martin Courtney is an underrated singer and songwriter, and Matt Mondanile has one of the most distinctive and clean lead guitar sounds I've heard in years. Just love this song: I can listen to it over and over.
