Naturaleza Muerta
Mecano Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Y Ana y Miguel
Ya prenden llama
Ella sobre él,
Hombre y mujer
Deshacen la cama
Y el mar que está loco por Ana
Prefiere no mirar
Los celos no perdonan
Al agua, ni a las algas, ni a la sal
Al amanecer
Ya está Miguel
Sobre su barca
Dame un beso amor,
Y espera quieta
Junto a la playa
Y el mar murmura en su lenguaje:
Maldito pescador!
The lyrics of Mecano's song Naturaleza Muerta tell the story of an illicit love affair between Ana and Miguel, and the tragic consequences that ensue. The opening lines describe Ana and Miguel making love before sunrise, with the sea serving as a silent witness. The sea, however, is not indifferent to what is happening, and its jealousy is palpable. The sea is personified as having feelings that mirror those of a jilted lover: it cannot forgive Ana for loving Miguel, and it cannot forgive Miguel for taking Ana away from it. The lyrics describe how Miguel leaves to go fishing at dawn, with Ana left behind, waiting for him on the beach. The sea, still jealous, keeps Miguel trapped, and he is presumed to have died at sea.
The latter part of the song portrays Ana waiting in vain for Miguel's return. It is said in the village that Ana turns into a rock, covered in salt and coral, still waiting for her lost love. The villagers suggest that Miguel's battle with the sea during a storm is what led to his disappearance. The song ends with a series of repeated lines, as if to emphasize the futility of Ana's waiting and the unrelenting power of the sea.
Overall, the lyrics of Naturaleza Muerta are a cautionary tale about the dangers of giving in to temptation and defying the forces of nature. The song highlights the fragility of human life and the power of the sea to take away those we love.

English translation (native tongue)
The sun hasn't risen
And already Ana and Miguel kindle flames
She atop of him
Man and women
Dishevel the bed
And the Sea that is crazy for Ana
Prefers not to look
Jealousy does not spare
Neither the waters, nor the algae, nor the salt
Upon morning
Miguel is already on his boat
Give me a kiss my love
And wait quietly on the beach
And the Sea murmurs in his language
Damned fisherman
Say goodbye to her
I don't want to share her heart
And she cries, cries, cries
For him
And she waits, waits, waits, standing
On the shore for Miguel's return
They say in the village that that white rock
Is Ana
Covered with salt and tears
She waits on the beach
Don't wait anymore
Girl of stone
Miguel will not return
The Sea has him prisoner
For not wanting to surrender a woman
And she cries, cries, cries
For him
And she waits, waits, waits, standing
On the shore for Miguel's return
There are even people who affirm that when there is a storm
The waves provoke him,
Miguel fighting for his life with the Sea
And she cries, cries, cries
For him
And she cries, cries, cries
For him
And she cries, cries,
On the shore

The sun has not come out yet
and Ana and Miguel
are already lighting a flame
She is upon him
Man and woman
undo the bed
And the sea, who is mad about Ana,
prefers not to watch
Jealousy does not spare
the water, the algae, nor the salt.
At dawn
Miguel already is
upon his barge
Give me a kiss love
and wait patiently
on the shore
And the sea whispers in his language,
Cursed fisherman!
Say goodbye to her
I will not share her heart
And to cry, and to cry, and to cry for him
and to wait, and to wait, and to wait standing
on the seashore, for Miguel's return
In the village people say,
that that white rose is Ana,
covered with salt and coral.
She waits upon the shore.
Wait no more, stone girl
Miguel will not return
The sea has taken him prisoner
for not wanting to give him a woman
And to cry, and to cry, and to cry for him
and to wait, and to wait, and to wait standing
on the seashore, for Miguel's return
There's even people who give their word
that when there is a storm
the waves are caused by
Miguel, fighting to death with the sea
And to cry, and to cry, and to cry for him
and to wait, and to wait, and to wait standing
on the seashore, for Miguel's return
And to cry, and to cry, and to cry for him
And to cry, and to cry, and to cry on the sea

Tan hermosos.
