The Sonics Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dangel-Greek-Morrill

Well, I had a little girl
She was so mean to me
Told her off now
Yes indeed
Said

Your dirty robber
Your dirty robber
Well, you've taken my love
Then you run away

Well, I went to her house
I gonna take her to a show
Find her there
With someone high class Joe

Your dirty robber
Your dirty robber
Well, you've taken my love
Then you run away

-SAX SOLO-

This little girl
She was so mean to me
Told her off now
Yes indeed
Said

Your dirty robber
Your dirty robber
Well, you've taken my love
Then you run away

GUITAR SOLO

You've taken my money
You've taken my car
Little girl, you even took my guitar
Said

Your dirty robber
Your dirty robber
Well, you've taken my love Then you run away

Overall Meaning

The Sonics's song "Dirty Robber" is about a man who had a fall out with a woman he had been dating. The song begins with the lyrics, "Well, I had a little girl She was so mean to me," indicating that the man was not treated nicely by his partner. The next line, "Told her off now, yes indeed," reveals that the man confronts the woman about her behavior. The chorus, "Your dirty robber, your dirty robber, well, you've taken my love then you run away," suggests that the woman had stolen something, most likely the man's love or affection, and then left.

Later on in the song, the man goes to the woman's house and discovers that she was with someone else, referred to as "someone high class Joe." This confirms the man's suspicion that the woman was not fully committed to him and had been unfaithful. The song ends with the man accusing the woman of stealing more than just his love, stating that she took his money, car, and even his guitar.
