The Rapper That Came To Tea
Little Simz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh hello, you're early
We weren't expecting you today
But since you're here, please sit
Would you like a cup of tea? There you go
Now, it will be a full house today
And many are unaware that you are joining
Not to be alarmed, I'm sure it'll be fine
However, the extroverts like to be entertained
And I was told you don't talk much? A question, if I may
What's a girl like you want in a place like this?
You see, I've seen many come and go in my lifetime
Those that last have given up, made sacrifices to be here
Do you have the willingness to do the same? better yet
What's the price that's worth your freedom?

Lead, what's the price that's worth your freedom?
When there's no-one there to lean on
Sweetheart, listen
Go beyond the stars
It will be hard

Food for thought, dear
Take it as you wish
The bravest of hearts can sometimes be the loneliest of souls
And pride comes with pain
So to be proud is a losing game
Are you the type to run or dance in the rain?
Your mind is the most powerful tool, never look back
Your destiny awaits

It don't matter where you are
You can still reach for the stars
It don't matter where you are
You can still reach for the stars

It don't matter where you are
You can still reach for the stars
It don't matter where you are

It don't matter where you are
You can still reach for the stars
It don't matter where you are
You can still reach for the stars

It don't matter where you are
You can still reach for the stars
It don't matter where you are

It don't matter where you are
You can still reach for the stars
It don't matter where you are
You can still reach for the stars

It don't matter where you

Overall Meaning

are, you can still reach for the stars. Little Simz's song "The Rapper That Came To Tea" opens with a welcoming tone, inviting someone in for a cup of tea. But as the verse goes on, it becomes clear that this is not just a casual visit. Little Simz is addressing a new rapper who is entering the entertainment industry. She warns them that it will be a full house and that the extroverts like to be entertained, indicating that they will be expected to perform and keep up with the others. Simz also notes that she has seen many come and go, implying that the industry can be difficult to navigate and that the rapper will have to be willing to make sacrifices to succeed. She ends the verse with the question, "What's the price that's worth your freedom?" suggesting that the rapper will have to give something up to achieve success, but questioning whether it is worth it.

The second verse takes a more encouraging turn, advising the rapper to keep pushing and striving towards their goals. Simz tells them to "go beyond the stars," even though it will be hard. She notes that the bravest of hearts can be the loneliest, and that pride comes with pain, implying that the journey to success can be a difficult one. However, she encourages the rapper to keep moving forward and to never look back, reminding them that their destiny awaits.

Overall, "The Rapper That Came To Tea" serves as both a warning and an encouragement to new artists entering the entertainment industry. Simz acknowledges the challenges and sacrifices that come with pursuing a career in music, but reminds the listener that if they cling to their dreams and work hard, they can still reach for the stars.

Some of the best interludes I've heard on a rap album in a while. This is absolutely stunning.

Alright. Now I wanna see Little Simz: The Musical. Seriously dude if they ever make a movie out of your life (pfft, "if") then it so has to be a musical with at least part of this album on the track list. The whole composition is just really cool.

Edit: She made a movie and I was not disappointed. Hell yeah Simz

@mochi4926

@@bl00d5h0ck Haha so dude it's called "I Love You, I Hate You - The Film" and it's really good. Go check out the videos on her channel and you'll see it. It's not a musical, but it adds this extra layer of depth to the Introvert album.
