Sierra Leone
Mt Eden Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let's have a game with happy and sad music
When you hear the happy music,
Play your rhythm sticks
Or clap, just as you did before,
Like this

What would you do if I held your hand and laid you down?
Would you find me overly familiar towards you?
I'd like to hold you sometime

Let's have a game with happy and sad music
When you hear the happy music,
Play your rhythm sticks
Or clap, just as you did before,
Like this

What would you do if I held your hand and laid you down?
Would you find me overly familiar towards you?
I'd like to hold you sometime

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mt Eden's song "Sierra Leone" are ambiguous, open to interpretation and are subject to personal perception. It is a song that can be seen and understood in different ways depending on the listener's point of view. Some people believe that the song is about love, while others think it is about adventure and discovery.

In the first verse, the singer suggests a game with happy and sad music where the audience plays their rhythm sticks or claps when happy music is played. This lyric might represent the duality of life, that there is always an ups and downs in life. The second verse talks about holding someone, and the line "Would you find me overly familiar towards you?" suggests that the singer is unsure of how the recipient might react to their advances. It's unclear whether the singer is expressing a romantic interest or simply comforting someone in need.

Overall, "Sierra Leone" is a beautifully layered song that combines haunting melodies with a thought-provoking message that resonates with listeners worldwide. The beauty of the song is that it allows the listener to form their interpretation of the lyrics, making it meaningful and personal.

I was listening this song back in 2011 when I was 18 years old and it
became one of my favourite dubstep track.
Since then, I've been visiting this West-African country Sierra Leone
multiple times a year because I became involved in a charity. The country
has a very sad story but are the most happy Africans I've ever met.
Whatever happens, they keep staying positive.

Such a small country, but in only 20 years it has been suffering very
badly... Civil war with many deaths, survivors who are amputees, child
soldiers who had to kill their own family and are psychologically scared
for life, and so on; more recently Ebola during 2014-2016 and now 2
days ago mud floods that killed over 300 people... They keep suffering.

So people, enjoy this song while you sit down and realise you do not
have to complain about anything in life because we have electronics,
education, clean water, mosquito's that don't make you sick, a roof to
stay dry and many other things that seem to be basic things for us. If
you can, share a small piece of your wealth with someone in need or an
organisation that helps others in need. I wish you all the best.

I think somebody should make a movie and use this song in it. You know, it's something like a main theme, using dubsteb parts in club/driving scenes, and vocals part (1:38) on sad/happy scenes. What do you think about it?
