Singers perform music known as songs that can either be sung a cappella (without accompaniment) or accompanied by musicians and instruments ranging from a single instrumentalist to a full symphony orchestra or big band. Singing is often done in a group of other musicians, such as in a choir of singers with different voice ranges, or in an ensemble with instrumentalists, such as a rock group or baroque ensemble.
Singing can be informal and done for pleasure; for example, singing in the shower or karaoke; or it can be very formal, as in the case of singing during a religious ritual such as a Mass or professional singing performances done on stage or in a recording studio. Singing at a high amateur or professional level usually requires instruction, and regular practice.[1] Professional singers usually build their careers around one specific musical genre, such as Classical or rock, they typically take voice training provided by a voice teacher or vocal coach throughout their career.

From Eden
Hozier Lyrics
Babe, there's something tragic about you
Something so magic about you
Don't you agree?
Babe, there's something lonesome about you
Something so wholesome about you
Get closer to me
No tight side, no rolling eyes, no irony
No 'who cares', no vacant stares, no time for me
Honey you're familiar like my mirror years ago
Idealism sits prison, chivalry fell on it's sword
Innocence died screaming, honey ask me I should know
I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door
Babe, there's something wretched about this
Something so precious about this
Oh what a sin
To the strand a picnic plan for you and me
A rope in hand for your other man to hang from a tree
Honey you're familiar like my mirror years ago
Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on it's sword
Innocents died screaming, honey ask me I should know
I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door
Honey you're familiar like my mirror years ago
Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on it's sword
Innocence died screaming, honey ask me I should know
I slithered here from Eden just to hide outside your door

Babe
There's something tragic about you
Something so magic about you
Don't you agree?
Babe
There's something lonesome about you
Something so wholesome about you
Get closer to me
[Pre-Chorus 1]
No tired sigh, no rolling eyes
No irony
No "Who cares?", no vacant stare
No time for me
[Chorus]
Honey, you're familiar, like my mirror years ago
Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on his sword
Innocence died screaming; honey, ask me, I should know
I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door
[Verse 2]
Babe
There's something wretched about this
Something so precious about this
Where to begin?
Babe
There's something broken about this
But I might be hoping about this
Oh, what a sin
[Pre-Chorus 2]
To the strand, a picnic planned
For you and me
A rope in hand for your other man
To hang from a tree
[Chorus]
Honey, you're familiar, like my mirror years ago
Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on his sword
Innocence died screaming; honey, ask me, I should know
I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door
[Instrumental]
[Chorus]
Honey, you're familiar, like my mirror years ago
Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on his sword
Innocence died screaming; honey, ask me, I should know
I slithered here from Eden just to hide outside your door

@Rupkatha Chakravartty you are truly welcome!

@Avijeet Turi woah that's amazing. I got air of it but never really fully got into it and now I will have to it. The man never fails to surprise me, god! Thanks for the info :))

@Rupkatha Chakravartty I see a lot of people saying it's about a man and woman, but none have noticed, it's is actually from the point of view of the devil. (I'm not kidding, Hozier confirmed it in a 'Track By Track' video on his channel)
Anyway, I think the whole song can be looked at as Satan talking to and about God; The song could be looked at less religiously, but I think it fits, Great work as always by Hozier.

@Rupkatha Chakravartty thanks for putting it aptly.

@Nadiah Akhtar the widest perception of the song sees it as being from the perspective of someone who is in love with someone else who is already in another relationship- call it cheating, call it an affair.
So i suppose, with these lines, the person is trying to say that he realises it's wrong, but for the sake of love, has renounced his morality, his virtues. His idealism, chivalry and innocence no longer exist because he's knowingly doing something that those virtues would have stopped him from doing earlier.
