Gordon Briggs
What do you fear most in the world?
The possibility that love is not enough
I turn around to talk
I face your eyes
Pride replaces fright
To my surprise
I feel as I'm falling, and I see
Your soul in your eyes
As I die
I try to stand tall
You roll your eyes
You feel the same way I do
To my surprise
I feel as we're drowning in the deepest sea
You die, you're gone just like me
Her eyes are starring at me
Empty as the sky
In this moment of tranquility
I realize
This is goodbye
The song "Moment of Tranquility" by Apoptygma Berzerk speaks about the complexities of a relationship that has reached its end despite the affections still present. The lyrics start by indicating that the singer is turning around to face their partner's eyes, indicating a moment of vulnerability and potential for intimacy. However, the pride that replaces the initial fright demonstrates that both parties are guarded and afraid of being hurt.
The singer then mentions feeling as though they are falling, indicating a loss of control and a sense of being overwhelmed. They see their partner's soul in their eyes and realize that the relationship has come to an end as they die. The second verse describes the tension between the singer and their partner as they attempt to maintain their composure. Despite the effort, they feel as though they are drowning in the deepest sea, indicating that they are unable to save the relationship from its inevitable demise.
The chorus indicates that the singer realizes that the moment they are experiencing is a goodbye. The description of the eyes being empty as the sky demonstrates the finality of the moment, and the moment of tranquility refers to a peaceful moment of acceptance that the relationship has run its course.
Overall, the song conveys a sense of painful resignation and acceptance in a relationship that has passed its expiration date. The singer realizes that despite their efforts, the relationship is over and they must move on.

My girlfriend broke up with me in 2004 and I played this on the way to drop her off. She broke her own heart that day...she told me years later. I hope you're well wherever you are Amy.
