Help Me
Sonny Boy Williamson Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I can't do it all by myself
You got to help me, baby
I can't do it all by myself
You know if you don't help me darling
I'll have to find myself, somebody else
I may have to wash, I may have to sew
I may have to cook, I might mop the floor
But you help me baby
You know if you don't help me darling
I'll find myself somebody else
When I walk, you walk with me
When I talk, you talk to me
Oh baby, I can't do it all by myself
You know if you don't help me darling
I'll have to find myself, somebody else
Help me, help me darlin'
Bring my nightshirt
Put on your morning gown
Oh, bring my nightshirt
Put on your morning gown
Darlin' I know we sleep bare
But I just don't feel like lyin' down, oh yeah keep
The lyrics to Sonny Boy Williamson's song "Help Me" are a plea to a lover to provide support and assistance in various aspects of life. The singer acknowledges that they cannot do everything on their own and need help to get by. Without the help of their lover, they may have to find someone else to support them. The lyrics suggest that the singer may have to take on traditionally feminine chores such as washing, sewing, and cooking, but as long as they have their lover's assistance, they can make it work.

Possibly the best harmonica blues song ever recorded. A masterpiece
@hughcameron
@One eyed Curious Hi, I Always thought Sonny Boy did it first, but Green Onions came out in October 1962 and Help Me was recorded in January 1963. Perhaps we can put the copycat down to Matt Murphy who played the guitar riff for Sonny Boy?

Hard to argue with that assertion.

That's one brutal song. So unpolished and real... It gets to me every time.

I started to blow my harp with this. Never found better. Now, 35 years later, still the greatest harp song.

Anyone knows which key harmonica is he using here?
