The study of soundscape is the subject of acoustic ecology. The idea of soundscape refers to both the natural acoustic environment, consisting of natural sounds, including animal vocalizations and, for instance, the sounds of weather and other natural elements; and environmental sounds created by humans, through musical composition, sound design, and other ordinary human activities including conversation, work, and sounds of mechanical origin resulting from use of industrial technology. The disruption of these acoustic environments results in noise pollution.
The term "soundscape" can also refer to an audio recording or performance of sounds that create the sensation of experiencing a particular acoustic environment, or compositions created using the found sounds of an acoustic environment, either exclusively or in conjunction with musical performances.

I love your description. Did you know there's a 5.1 mix of this album? If you haven't heard Pavonis Mons in 5.1 and you have a surround sound system, you need to get it now. It's my favorite track on the album, and I can no longer bear listening to the stereo version. It's like watching the Wizard of Oz in black and white as opposed to actually being there in person. You can feel yourself floating over the magical city.

those hats and the sweeping bass inflection looming in the back of this song are such excellent uses of sound. truly unique and outstanding production.
@zonsius
Love this track. Great groove with lots of interesting musical ideas sprinkled in. The horns that come in at 1:43 are the types of horns I hear on The Boo Radleys' "Giant Steps" album.
@adambaum421
thank you so much for tagging the tracks. there should be more ppl like you. you are a philosopher of philosophers.
@Frash99
the brass part at 1:44 was my ring tone for almost 3 years!!
@fob199
I love this song by why did it win a grammy? out of all the incredible songs of the album. I'd say 'robot sympathy' or 'do you realize?' should've won grammies over this song. again don't get me wrong i love this song.
@ryanre103
fob199 this is the best song on the album. expert arrangement
@MrJDFrog
Lyrically, yes. Those are both amazing songs. This one is just so sonically mesmerizing.
But I want "Do You Realize" played at my funeral, as my final goodbye to all the beautiful people in my life.
@pauljordan8033
