Verbatim
Mother Mother Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, oh
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah
Oh, oh
I wear women's underwear
And then I go to strike a pose in my full length mirror
I cross my legs just like a queer
But my libido is strong when a lady is near, yeah
What defines a straight man's straight?
Is it the boxer in the briefs or a twelve ounce steak? Nah
I tell you what a women loves most
It's a man who can slap but can also stroke
Goin' in the wind is an eddy of the truth and it's naked
It's verbatim and it's shakin'
No, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no more gettin' elated
No more listless invitations
I live by a hospital
And every day, I go out walking past its sickly windows
I see people dying there
But my tender age makes it hard to care
The incinerator and a big smoke stack
It's a phallic symbol and it makes me laugh
All I need is a heart attack
Come on, humble my bones with a cardiac
Goin' in the wind is an eddy of the truth and it's naked
It's verbatim and it's shakin'
No, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no more gettin' elated
No more listless invitations
For the love of fuck
For the sake of Pete
Oh, did you ever really think you'd love a guy like me?
I am the rooster in the morning
I'm the cock of the day
I'm the boxer in the briefs
I'm a twelve ounce steak
Ayy-oh
Ayy-oh
Ayy-oh
Hey-oh
Yeah-bo
Yeah-bo
Yeah-bo
Yeah-bo
Yeah-bo
It's verbatim
And yeah, and it's naked
And yeah, and it's shakin'
It shakes, shakes, shakes
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, oh
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, oh
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah, oh
Oh, oh, yeah, yeah
The song Verbatim by Mother Mother opens with the lead singer acknowledging his unconventional preferences, stating that he wears women's underwear and strikes a pose in front of the mirror. However, he also acknowledges that he is sexually attracted to women. He ponders on what defines a straight man's masculinity, whether it is the type of underwear or the amount of meat he can consume. He claims that women love a man who can both dominate and caress them.
The chorus talks about the "truth" which is raw and undressed, and how it has shaken him. The singer then talks about how he passes by the hospital every day, seeing sickly people through its windows, but due to his young age, he finds it difficult to care. He takes note of the incinerator and the big smoke stack beside it which seems to be a phallic symbol and how it amuses him. He then invokes a heart attack hoping to humble himself.
The final lines of the chorus are repeated to emphasize the rawness of the truth the singer has come to understand about his identity, leading to a cathartic moment where he embraces his masculinity, his idiosyncrasies, and his sexual preferences.

Grrr people are misinterpreting the lyrics so I'm making a rundown 😭
Tldr: the song is about a guy who doesn't care about gender conformity and makes fun of silly stereotypes of masculinity and femininity
ALSO, a quick Google or Safari search can also give you the definition! :) "Verbatim By Mother Mother lyrics meaning" would be a good search term!
This song is about a dude who doesn't conform to any gender stereotypes and just doesn't care about them, he wears womens underwear, crosses his legs "like a queer" but despite these stereotypes, he actually loves women like a normal dude does.
He makes fun of what people believes make a straight man straight, using the stereotypes of masculinity like stereotypical cis men eating a "12 ounce steak" or wearing boxers as opposed to "womens underwear"
Anyways this is what I remember and I'm probably wrong on some things or include some other meanings :) but the songs lyrics arent as shallow as "man is gay" or "he doesn't know if he's gay or not"

Sorry if there are any errors, i'm too tired

I love the guitar on this. It’s really simple but also just has a different vibe.

And the female vocals just compliment it so hard, especially when she goes "no no no no no no"
