Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I am just out of school
I am real real cool
I got the jump got the jive
Got the message I'm alive

I'm a wild I'm wild one!
Oh yeah I'm a wild one!
I'm gonna keep a shakin'
I'm gonna keep a movin' baby

Don't you cramp my style I'm a real wild child!
Come on baby shake all night long
Shake until the meat come off the bone
'cause I'm a wild one

Oh yeah I'm a wild one
I'm gonna keep a shakin'
I'm gonna keep a movin' baby
Don't you cramp my style I'm real wild child!

Well I gonna pick you up in my 88
Get ready sugar now don't be late
We're gonna move it all night long
Until a whole lotta shakin' going be on!

I'm a wild one
Oh yeah I'm a wild one!
I'm gonna keep a shakin'
I'm gonna keep a movin' baby

Don't you cramp my sytle I'm a real wild child
Whoa!
Well I really get to movin' when the sun goes down
Oh after dark I can get around

Gonna move on I'll make every hop
When we start to boppin' now sure can't stop
I'm a wild one
Oh yeah I'm a wild one

I'm gonna keep a shakin'
I'm gonna keep a movin' baby
Don't you cramp my style I'm a real wild child!
I'm a real wild child
I'm a real wild child
Watch out!

Well, I'm just out of school
Like a real, real cool
Gotta dance like a fool
Got the message that
I've gotta be a wild one
Oh yeah, I'm a wild one
Gonna break and loose
Gonna keep a movin' wild
Gonna keep a swingin', baby
I'm a real wild child
Gonna meet all my friends
Gonna have myself a ball
Gonna tell my friends
Gonna tell them all
That I'm a wild one
Oh yeah, I'm a wild one
Gonna break and loose
Gonna keep a movin' wild
Gonna keep a swingin', baby
I'm a real wild child
I'm a real wild one
And I like a wild fun
In a world gone crazy
Everything seems hazy
I'm a wild one
Oh yeah, I'm a wild one
Gonna break and loose
Gonna keep a movin' wild
Gonna keep a swingin'
Baby, I'm a real wild child
I'm a wild one
I'm a wild one
I'm a wild one
Oh baby, I'm a wild one!
Gonna break and loose
Gonna keep a movin' wild
Gonna keep a swingin'
Baby, I'm a real wild child

I got the chance to catch him at Riot Fest in 2018. Didn't think I would ever see him in my lifetime, but sure enough I did. Even at his age, the show he put on was legendary. Best night of my life, honest to God.

Jerry Lee recorded this song in 1958 but didn't release it until 1974. It rocked then and it still rocks now, which is why so many people like Iggy and Joan Jett have covered it. Incidently JLL's version is also a cover. The original was written and released in 1958 by an Australian artist named Johnny O'Keefe, who is regarded as the godfather of Aussie rock'n'roll.
