Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again
The Angels Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Went down to Santa Fe
Where Renoir paints the walls
Described you clearly
But the sky began to fall

Am I ever gonna see your face again
Am I ever gonna see your face again

Trams, cars and taxis
Little waxworks on the move
Carry young girls past me
But none of them are you

Am I ever gonna see your face again
Am I ever gonna see your face again

Without you near me
I got no place to go
Wait at the bar
Maybe you might show

Am I ever gonna see your face again
Am I ever gonna see your face again

I've got to stop these tears
That's falling from my eye
Go walk out in the rain
So no one sees me cry

Am I ever gonna see your face again
Am I ever gonna see your face again

Am I ever gonna see your face again
Am I ever gonna see your face again

Can't stop the memory
That goes climbing through my brain
I get no answers
So the questions still remains

Am I ever gonna see your face again
Am I ever gonna see your face again

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again" conjure vivid imagery of the desolate and worn-down streets of Santa Fe, where even the paintings on the walls have seen better days. Amidst this dispiriting setting, the singer searches desperately for his beloved, described broadly yet clearly enough for anyone who might see her to point her out. But as the sky falls, it becomes apparent that his search is futile; the world around him seems to be collapsing, and with it his hopes of finding her.

Throughout the song, the singer paints a picture of a world in which he is lost and alone without his lover, looking for her desperately in crowds of strangers, waiting for her in bars, and even contemplating whether to walk out in the rain to hide his tears from the world. The poignant refrain of "Am I ever gonna see your face again?" serves as a reminder of his perpetual uncertainty and deep longing, with no clear answer to his question.

Overall, "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again" is a powerful and affecting ballad about love, loss, and the overwhelming sense of isolation that can come with the absence of a significant other. With its heartbreaking lyrics and stirring melody, it has become a classic of the rock genre, resonating with listeners for decades since its release in 1976.

You keep going around spinning a BS story.

The Angels were NOT "sued successfully" over the song.
it didn't even get to court, fool. đŸ€Ł
Both bands simply reached an agreement where Status Quo got some of the royalties.
And, in fact, the guys in both bands were actually good mates.

The lyrics are not the same, and that is what makes this song the classic that it still is to this day.
So take your fairytale and bitter, jaded hate elsewhere. And stop spinning sh*t.

Complete with the self isolation courtesy of telling any plague ridden yuppie who isn't you to piss off

In 1985 as 16yo I remember standing on a bar stool in the Charles hotel 'rocking out' to the Angels (Yeah. not good but is what it is 😐). By the mid 00's I had three primary school daughters. We had an angels CD or two in the trusty 'ol VX and I taught my daughters that it was "No way. get lost, rack off!". They used to scream it at the top of their lung which always made laugh.

The best bit was when they got to their late teens and realised what the real chant was... They were in shock and horror that i would do that to them!!! I LMFAO! đŸ€Ł

Gonna be the last song played at my funeral - and attendees have to sing the live chorus!

@markmcallan973

Good choice! You will find out who loves U👍👊👌

@susanmaynard8652

Yeh funny that we used to sing the chorus in the nightclubs playing it now. Doc and Bon Scott are my heroes

Saw his face just once, live, at the Hell's Angels' Rock Weekend - 3 - 5 December 1998. Doc Neeson - the Mad Irishman - came on just on midnight. When he opened his mouth and let out a deep Bass-Baritone voice .... my jaw dropped.... instant LUST! Unforgettable, even though we will, alas, never see his face again. R.I.P. Doc - LEGEND!
