First time I listened to this, I fell in love. Brought a lot of emotion. So much that I send it to my 15 yearly old daughter and the first thing she said was “I love that song so much”. That really hurt me. About a year ago she got depressed and tried to end her life by overdosing on pills. Any parent would tell you that it’s the worst feeling ever to get a call that your daughter is in the hospital after hurting herself. I blame myself for not being the father I should be for her. After me and her mom separated, it broke her but one never expects the hurt that it causes to our children. By a miracle my daughter survived and I thank god everyday now and pray for all the people who are going through depression. I promise, it will get better. “Nothings gonna hurt you”

I would give anything to have a Dad like you by just reading your thoughts here. I am more of a parent to my parents usually than they were to me sadly. I also have depression and decided I should stay to not hurt my family and ruin any of my friends lives. Hopefully along the way, I will find something for me to live for so to speak. We often place too much pressure on ourselves. I’ve tried to be a rock, but I cannot anymore, so now I am just what I am. I do try to be good and do good though in life. When I studied abroad in Australia from the US, I fell in love hard with a local Aussie and we dated my entire time there. We were madly in love, but both knew it could never last despite convincing ourselves for months that we’d be together forever. When my visa was about to expire, my boyfriend and I agreed that we’d go our separate ways when the year ended despite our love for each other – we just couldn’t maintain that 18hr time difference/7000 mile long distance at that age in our lives. The night before my flight, we played this song with the fairy lights around the room, held each other and cried and told each other how much we loved each other and our time together. I still remember the way the air felt and the look on his face of love and apology. Even though I’ve moved on, it’s still one of my favorite, most treasured memories and when I want to remember one of the most beautifully bittersweet moments of my life, I play this song. Edit 7 months later: I originally had a 2 months later edit that I deleted bc it was maybe a little cringey. My girlfiend Lanya and I would listen to this song which would take us away from our horrible realities at home. Her step-father regularly beat and sexually abused her growing up and my uncle that I lived with molested me. When Lanya and I were together all we would do was hold each other and this song brought us together in the moment...forgetting all of the horror we had to face growing up as teens and bringing us to a safe place. It really brought us to a safe and beautiful place. I joined the military at 18 and promised to come back for Lanya after basic training...during my absence she cut her wrist from depression and possibly from more abuse from her step father and was found dead in her bathtub with this song on repeat. I will forever and always have Lanya with me near and dear in my heart. This happened 5 years ago and this song brings me back to the days her and I would just hold each other in our own safe place together. I was always her rock and I wish I was there for her so she could still be with me today. Lanya I will always love and forever miss you!

I thought at first sentences that your story would have been a lovely story until the very last sentences.
I did almost the same things as your person. After sexual abused I listened to this song repeatedly and fought the urges to end my existence. I might understand her at least in some aspects. I survived by anti suicide drug that psychiatrist gave me and with a support from my friend who visited me at dorm every 2 days. I did not have bf at that time. I think at the time the urge to end life was too strong. My friend took me out to the market, department store or even festivals in order to drag me out of a state of suffering. But with the amount of abused your gf had been through. I think it was enormous at the time. I think she at least met a good bf. At least she had experience a peaceful moment where she could feel safe with you. That is truly precious moment where money con’t buy.

I remember proposing to my girlfriend on one knee in my living room. The sun was going down and she just lit up. After accepting my proposal, she and I slow danced to this song in my living room and kissed and at that moment, I felt so sure of everything in life. I thought I had found my soulmate...The rest of the story is rather tragic so I'll hold out on the aftermath of what happened later on...but long story short, she and I are no longer together and have not had contact in almost three years or something like that. But there's still nothing that can destroy the memory of how perfect everything felt at that moment in history and there's not a day that goes by that I don't wish I could recapture those emotions I felt then.

I didnt know about this song until she introduced it to me. It was when we were fresh in our relationship, i used to pick her up mostly during night. While i was waiting for her in my car i would play this as she enters with that lovely smile on her face. Now every time i play this song i go back to that summer night when rain was pouring and we were in my car with this on. We were deeply in love at that time. That memory is still clear as a day in my mind, after 2 years and i still cherish that moment with all my heart. I could feel her warm body pressed to mine, that sweet smell of her shampoo, softness of her lips. We are no longer together. This song is my time machine.
