Still On Fire
Aztec Camera Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm in love with everything that breaks the grip of caution
On our getting up and leaving for a bigger day, still some say
That all you need is money to be free from what is poor
Well that's the lie of looking up from somewhere down

Because the sun will show to testify that all the
Time between belongs to you and I, to be still on fire
And when the strongest words have all been used
And all the new ones sound confused, to be still on fire

Somewhere in the middle we could see through all the people
And be playing second fiddle and be feeling sore
Shown the door to chase out all the child in you
Is throwing out the baby for the chance to make it easy to be more

And the sun will show to testify that all the
Time between belongs to you and I, to be still on fire
And when the strongest words have all been used
And all the new ones sound confused, to be still on fire

When the sun will show to testify that all the
Time between belongs to you and I, to be still on fire
And when the strongest words have all been used
And all the new ones sound confused, to be still on fire

And the sun will show to testify that all the
Time between belongs to you and I, to be still on fire
And when the strongest words have all been used
And all the new ones sound confused, to be still on fire

Overall Meaning

In "Still On Fire," Aztec Camera frontman Roddy Frame sings about the struggle to break free from the confines of caution and conventional societal expectations. The song suggests that money cannot buy freedom and that chasing financial security often results in losing one's sense of childlike wonder and passion. Instead, the song advocates for embracing one's inner fire and being unafraid to pursue their dreams, even when the strongest words have been used and new ones sound confused.

The lyrics emphasize the importance of living passionately and fully in the moment, as evidenced by the repeated refrain of "to be still on fire." The song urges listeners to resist the urge to conform or settle for less than their dreams, even when it means playing "second fiddle" or experiencing the pain of rejection.

I encara sentim l'escalfor
Si, encara cremo
I totes aquesta paraules s'han de fer servir
Per a vèncer la port i evitar caure en la confusió

Encara sento l'escalfor
Encara estic encès

En algun lloc del centre
Vam poder veure a través de tota aquella gent
I escoltar-los
I sentir el seu dolor
I mostrar-los la porta per trobar una sortida
Per a trobar el nen que tots portaven dins

I recuperar aquells ulls de nadó
I el posterior somriure d'infant "

Early Aztec Camera was unlike anything else ever made, though I always think of The Smiths & Duran Duran when I listen to songs like this & my favorite Aztec Camera song; "Walk out to Winter". Such brilliant pop music. On a final note; Roddy Frame has such a great voice & a knack for great song writing: he just knows what notes will harmonize & compliment the melody of the music & his vocal arrangements are unpredictable. Great stuff!!!

Notice the Orange Juice connection in this video, which has always been strong. I went to an Edwyn Collins gig not long after he was able to re take the stage and Roddy played a few songs with him. You could feel the friendship bond they had and it was magical.

Knife was/is/remains a great album. I think I was either in the 9th or 10th grade and listening to it today still blows me away.

The title track was the one to use when you were flying the board at the university radio station and needed to use the bathroom. Over nine minutes long!

Decent songs but I'm not a fan of the tinny 80s CD style digital production sound. I prefer the first album's more analog sound

Love Roddy and Aztec Camera sooo much ❤

@cheekietoo

Saw them twice in Toronto...he's so talented, had several guitars that he interchanged to perform various tracks and is ever so sweet!!!

I saw them at Massey Hall, I think in 1988. Terrific. I travelled up from Ottawa on the train. I was studying at Carleton. I felt like such an adult.
