i listened to this song on repeat while driving through the desolate, snow covered countryside where my father grew up. seeing 200 person towns with the same houses my great grandparents grew up in still standing left me with a melancholy I can’t fully comprehend. The streets were empty and the wind and cold were relentless. One of my father’s relatives still lives out there all alone in a farmhouse by herself. Her husband and children all died before her, and nobody goes to see her anymore. We visited her while we were passing through and she just seemed so miserable, i don’t blame her though. She had this despondent look in her eyes that screamed a thousand words I pray I never know the meaning of. I think of that lonesome old woman every time I hear this song, isolated in that cold, empty town.

I miss my mom
She is a single mother and raised me for most my life, and I watched drugs and alcohol rip her apart. Yesterday night she said I was dead to her because she has some messed up ideas of who I am. I wish her the best but I know I can’t save her.

This song feels like the guilt my mom felt when she wanted to ab*rt me just like her past children but she listened to my aunt (my current caretaker) and kept me. The only thing she wanted was to be a mother but a mother to a child she planned. A mother to a child that wasn't from a bar bathroom or in the streets. A mother to a child with a father who wouldn't leave right after knocking her up.

Listening to this when i havent felt a mothers love for about half of my life hits really deep.
I miss her. I miss when she would braid my hair before i go to school, when she would scare me when i wake up with those old porcelain dolls, when i would come home to see the toys that i told her i wanted in the store, i miss having a mother to hug, to cry to, and to love with. I know she'll never come back with us, seeing that shes in another country with a new husband. I don't hate her for what she did, i just wished she told me sooner rather than me having to find out the hard way.
When i become a mother, i swear i will never leave my child, i want them to grow with a healthy, loving, and complete family. I want my child to live an amazing life. I want them to grow up feeling loved, wanted, and cherished.
