Give us your vote
If you know what's good for you
Oh, give us your vote
Give us your vote
If you know what's good for you
These are the lines
That we straighten every year
And it's the second time
They mapped the constellation
So we searched for you by night
In the Deptford gravel pit
Until the tramp finds Christ
Injustice is my middle name
You don't need to change
Your future's with us
You don't need to change
Your future's with us
You look a wreck
Left your key inside the door
And my rook will check
Across this black and white chess board
Your English is good
We can see it in your bones
In this neighborhood
We ain't driving you home
You don't need to change
Your future's with us
You don't need to change
Oh, give us your vote
Give us your vote
Your English is good
We can see it in your bones
"Your English Is Good" by Tokyo Police Club is a song with deeply layered and metaphorical lyrics. At the surface, it seems like a conversation between a politician and a voter, with the politician asking for their vote. However, the song delves deeper into themes of identity, search, and acceptance. The repetition of the lines "give us your vote, if you know what's good for you" speaks to a yearning for control and power over someone's decisions. The song seems to urge people to hold onto their individuality and identity while navigating the world.
The lyrics also explore themes of search and acceptance. Lines like "so we searched for you by night in the Deptford gravel pit until the tramp finds Christ" and "your English is good, we can see it in your bones" provide glimpses at the idea of finding something that was lost or hidden. The song seems to say that it doesn't matter what someone looks like, where they come from or how they speak, their identity is already evident in their bones. It also speaks to the idea of embracing differences instead of judging or rejecting people based on their appearances.
In conclusion, "Your English Is Good" by Tokyo Police Club is a song that speaks to the desire for control, individuality, and acceptance in a world that's always changing.

I remember watching this religiously as a teenager, endlessly fascinated by the idea of having a friend group like this someday when I get older and maybe someday be cool enough to be a part of a group like this. I'm 28. It never happened. And I guess it's OK. It was a nice fantasy to believe in. Still thrilling and bittersweet to rewatch.
@peacht3
Well ya know what, you just made a friend. I'm 32 and we can have our own group! Nice to meet you lol

I had a friend group like this in my early 20's. We all moved in our mid 20's but I moved to south america and got a new gang. It's possible but you have to constantly seek adventure
