Help Me Somebody
Brian Eno & David Byrne Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Talkin' funny and lookin' funny and talkin' 'bout
"Nobody loves(?) me" you make yourself look bad.
Help me somebody.
You need to take a good look at yourself a
And see if you're the kind of person that God wants you to be.
It's no big thing, it's a small thing, what... people... think(?).
Help me somebody.
There's no escape from Him.
He's so high you can't get over Him.
He's so low you can't get under Him.
He's so wide you can't get around Him.
If you make your bed in Heaven He's there.
If you make your bed in Hell He's there.
He's everywhere.
Woo! Help me somebody. Woo! Help me somebody.

Overall Meaning

The song "Help Me Somebody" by Brian Eno and David Byrne tells the story of an individual who feels isolated, misunderstood, and unloved. The lyrics suggest that the person is acting and speaking in a way that makes them unattractive to others, and they are asking for help. The chorus "Help me somebody" reinforces the idea that they need assistance from someone, whether it's God or another person.

The second part of the song emphasizes the omnipresence of God, suggesting that no matter where the person goes, they cannot escape his presence. The lyrics describe God as so big and all-encompassing that he cannot be avoided. The use of the word "Woo!" after each repetition of "Help me somebody" serves to emphasize the desperate plea for assistance.

Overall, the song's message is one of seeking help from a higher power or another individual to overcome personal struggles and become the person that God intends for them to be.

This came from some portal to eno and Byrne's minds. They paid attention and created an almost perfect album. Dancing girls is the only thing missing.

@MegaElvisd

I remember when I first heard this and I went, "Good God, this is amazing." I just couldn't stop dancing.
