I Can Dream Can't I?
The Andrews Sisters Lyrics

(Dream on, dream on)

I can see
No matter how near you'll be
You'll never belong to me
But I can dream, can't I?
Can't I pretend that I'm locked
In the bend of your embrace?
For dreams are just like wine
And I am drunk with mine

I'm aware
My heart is a sad affair
There's much disillusion there
But I can dream, can't I?
Can't I adore you
Although we are oceans apart?
I can't make you open your heart
But I can dream, can't I?

I'm aware
My heart is a sad affair
There's much disillusion there
But I can dream, can't I?
Can't I adore you
Although we are oceans apart?
I can't make you open your heart
But I can dream, can't I?

(Dream on, dream on, dream on)
I can dream, can't I?

I remember the AndrewsSisters from when I was a very young child. I never forgot them. Good memories!

I like the Andrew Sisters, but Karen Carpenter did a fantastic job on her version. It's dreamy, it's romantic, it's perfect, like her voice.

I just listened to Karen Carpenter‘s version and was surprised that Patti’s version is superior in the sound and phrasing. Karen’s interpretation is too slow, which may have been the tempo that the arranger or Richard wanted. But still, Karen Carpenter finishes some words with a little grate or a strange sound which she does at times but she does it a lot in her version. And that was distracting. Along with the tempo.

Patti Andrews has the definitive solo on “I can dream, can’t I.” After all these years, Patti’s version still cannot be touched.

I woke up early in the morning for some reason this song popping into my head. I could conjure bits and peices of it. Good old YouTube. I came on here and voila!! There it is. Beautiful song. Love the Andrew Sisters. I pity young people who will never investigate the truely great artists.

I recently learned this was my dad’s favorite song, according to his senior year high school memory book (1951). He and my mother met in high school, and I might assume he was thinking of her when he heard this song.

This song is perfectly lovely and sad. It reminds me of my Nana because she loved The Andrews Sisters.
