Wishing Well
blink-182 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Been gone a long time
I kinda lost my way, can't find it
And I caught a short ride
To the grave and back this season
I can try to get by
But every time I start to panic
I'm a little bit shy
A bit strange and a little bit manic

La da da da, da da da da
La da da da, da da da da da

La da da da, da da da da
La da da da, da da da da da

I went to a wishing well
But sank to the ocean floor
Cut up by sharpened rocks
And washed up along the shore
I reached for a shooting star
It burned a hole through my hand
It made it's way through my heart
Had fun in the promised land

On the narrowing line
What a way to sort my troubles
In a very short time, gonna pop
Better duck and cover
Can you figure me out?
I got caught like a little kid stealing
Did I say it too loud?
A bit hard or a little misleading

La da da da, da da da da
La da da da, da da da da da

La da da da, da da da da
La da da da, da da da da da

I went to a wishing well
But sank to the ocean floor
Cut up by sharpened rocks
And washed up along the shore
I reached for a shooting star
It burned a hole through my hand
It made it's way through my heart
Had fun in the promised land

La da da da, da da da da
La da da da, da da da da da

La da da da, da da da da
La da da da, da da da da da

I went to a wishing well
But sank to the ocean floor
Cut up by sharpened rocks
And washed up along the shore
I reached for a shooting star
It burned a hole through my hand
It made it's way through my heart
Had fun in the promised land

I went to a wishing well
But sank to the ocean floor
Cut up by sharpened rocks
And washed up along the shore
I reached for a shooting star
It burned a hole through my hand
It made it's way through my heart
Had fun in the promised land

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to blink-182's song "Wishing Well" hint at a lost soul who is searching for something they cannot seem to find. The opening lines indicate that the person has been away for a long time and has lost their bearings. They feel lost and unable to find their way back to where they belong. The next few lines describe a near-death experience, where they have gone to the 'grave and back'. Despite being shaken by the experience, they are still unable to shake off their anxieties and fears.

The chorus of the song describes the person's attempt to find solace in a wishing well. It's almost as though they are hoping to find what they are searching for in this mystical place. However, they end up getting hurt by the sharp rocks and washed up onto shore. In their desperation, they reach for a shooting star but end up being burned by it instead. The song makes it seem like the person's search for answers is a painful process, and every attempt to find what they're looking for ends in failure.

Overall, the song paints a picture of someone who is struggling to find their place in the world. They are searching for something they cannot seem to find and their attempts to find it only seem to leave them more hurt and confused.

Neighbourhoods is an absolute masterpiece honestly, I know a lot of fans don't like it but it really feels like a very emotional send off for the band

RC Codes

the album is disjointed... you can tell it was written and recorded separately instead of together.. its common for bands to record stuff separately but this album was basically written in each of their home studios and emailed back and forth lol. you can tell too a song that they were working on before the split like up all night sounds alot more connected then the rest of the album.. DeD was on the right path though, i think when i was young is the best song they recorded during their second go at it.

Tom delonge is brilliant at writing song lyrics in a style that he can only pull off, that's why

Blink

Top three favorite Blink albums.

Trent Taylor

Criminally underrated

Junior Lopez

This song, right here. It gives us a taste of what AVA would have sounded like had Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker been a part of it. haha Huge fucking difference. I love AVA to pieces, always will. It's inspirational and magical. But nothing beats the magic of Mark, Tom and Travis when they're together making music. <3

Alexander Jones

Actually, this song was 100% Tom.

Yhavin Miles

Alexander Jones everything good out of blink besides their more poppy bangers are all him. Travis however is actually really helpful and his ideas are pretty good especially with how good of a punk drummer he is. Mark is probably my least favorite member of the band

dominick Martino

2019 one of their most underrated songs
