Scattered Diamonds
Hungry Kids of Hungary Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Last night the weekend caught us up
We fell in fits across the floor
Scattered diamonds through your dress
And curses through your door
Ooooooh ooh ooh
You want it you got it all
And it’s the last time I sit by
Saving face with all your friends
‘Cause it’s one thing to remember
And another thing to live again
Ooooooh ooh ooh
You want it you got it all
Ooooooh ooh ooh, Oooooh ooh ooh
You want it you got it all
Six sorry years and now the gloves are off
Would it be easier if it was all my fault
Oooooh oh, whoa oh oh, wooooah
Last night the weekend caught us up
We fell in fits across the floor
Scattered diamonds through your dress
And curses through your door
Ooooooh ooh ooh
You want it you got it all
And it’s the last time I sit by
Saving face with all your friends
‘Cause it’s one thing to remember
And another thing to live again
Ooooooh ooh ooh
You want it you got it all
And I won’t be waiting for your call
You want it you got it all
Six sorry years and now the gloves are off
Would it be easier if it was all my fault
Oooooh oh, whoa oh oh, wooooah
You want it you got it all
You want it you got it all
You want it you got it all
You want it you got it all

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Hungry Kids of Hungary's song Scattered Diamonds depict the aftermath of a tumultuous night. The weekend has caught up to the singer and their partner, which has resulted in them falling on the floor in fits. As they look at their partner, they notice scattered diamonds on their dress, perhaps representative of the shining moments they have shared throughout their time together. However, these moments are juxtaposed against curses through the door, indicating the arguments that have occurred. The singer sings, "you want it you got it all," which could suggest that the partner has received everything they desire from the relationship. The singer reflects on having sat beside their partner before, saving face with their friends, and realizes that it's one thing to remember these moments and another to live through them again.

The chorus is repeated throughout the song, driving home the idea that the partner has everything they desire, but the singer is no longer interested in waiting for their call. They sing, "Six sorry years and now the gloves are off, would it be easier if it was all my fault." This line suggests that the singer may feel they have taken the blame for the relationship's hardships and that they have had enough. "Six sorry years" implies they've been in the relationship for some time and are ready to move on.

Overall, Scattered Diamonds is a melancholic reflection on a relationship that has come to its end. The singer has realized that they want something different and is ready to move on, with or without their partner.

Its harsh to see such a wonderful band staying so underground, these guys deserve a lot more recognition.

I simply start browsing on Spotify typing Hungary in... this comes up first, lovely tunes to my ears. Thanks guys.
From Ireland who's Hungarian lol

I actually think this is really original! It's not exactly copying Vampire Weekend/Phoenix or whatever, they just happen to be the same genre! Great song!

I can't agree more! You have great music taste because those are all great bands

@upsidedownbraids

I am heading off to Hungary in about a month and I've been getting the Hungry in Hungary joke like no other, and then I found this band! Sometimes things just work so strangely! I probably wouldn't have listened to this if it wasn't for the name that caught my attention. That would have been a huge loss on my part!

@PurpleJam22
