I Understand
Smokie Norful Lyrics

It seems like my best just ain't good enough
Lord if you hear me, I'm calling you
Do you see, do you care at all
About what I'm going through
And then he said
One more day, one more step
I'm preparing you for myself
When you can't hear my voice
Please trust my plan
I'm the Lord, I see and yes I understand
Sometimes I feel like I'm all alone
Just like a stranger so far from home
I feel like I've done all that I can do
Please Lord give me strength
I'm just trying to make it through
That's when he told me
One more day, one more step
I'm preparing you for myself
When you can't hear my voice
Please trust my plan
I'm the Lord, I see you and yes I understand
He knows how much we can bear
In the time of trouble
He promised he'd always be there
I understand, I understand
I am the Lord, I see you and yes I understand
I am the Lord and I changed not
I won't forget nor have I forgot
Everything works according to my plan
I am God, trust me
I got the whole world in my hands
One more day, one more step
I'm preparing you for myself
When you can't hear my voice
Please trust my plan
I'm the Lord, I see you and yes I understand
I'm the Lord, I see you and yes I understand
I'm the Lord, I see you and yes I understand
The song "I Understand" by Smokie Norful is a song of encouragement for those who feel like giving up. The opening lines express the singer's frustration that despite his best efforts, he cannot seem to succeed. He calls out to the Lord, asking if He hears his prayers and if He cares about his struggles. The following lines proclaim that the Lord responds by telling the singer to persevere just a little bit longer, for the Lord is preparing him for something greater. The Lord's voice may not always be audible, but the singer is urged to trust in the Lord's plan, for He sees all and understands all.
The next verse continues the theme of feeling alone and a stranger in a foreign land, conveying a sense of displacement and longing for home. Again, the singer asks for strength to keep going. The song climaxes with the repeated phrase "I understand", spoken by the Lord himself. The Lord is presented as a God who knows the limits of human endurance and is always present in times of trouble. Everything happens according to His plan, and rather than giving up, the singer is encouraged to trust in that plan, even when it seems dark and uncertain.
The song's message is ultimately one of hope and endurance. The Lord is cast in a comforting light as a constant presence in the singer's life, always listening and always guiding, even when the path forward seems unclear. The final exhortation to keep going and trust in God's plan is intended to inspire listeners to keep pushing themselves to greater heights, confident that the Lord is working with them every step of the way.

I was listening to my local gospel station and heard this song. I was feeling overwhelmed and downcast. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and got through with the Grace and Mercy of The Most High and our Saviour Jesus then I found out I had 3 brain tumors in February and had to have 2 brain surgeries in February and March of this year. Satan and his minions have been trying to take me out for a long time but by My Father's Grace and the strength of My Saviour Jesus I am still here, still standing. I was directed to this song by The Holy Spirit to refresh my spirit on this battlefield I am on. Bless You ππΎ
