Had this friend before. His girlfriend broke up with him. We said, "hey, man. Can't say everything would be fine, but take your time to heal and move on." We gave him some friendly advises, we're looking out for the dude since he was really distraught about the whole break up. So we thought maybe it'll also help if we, his friends, also gave him a little space so he don't feel like we're forcing things on him.

Weeks passed, we were checking up on him, and he seemed to be getting better day by day. We're happy that he was getting happy at least. But then we learned that he already had another girlfriend. We didn't really expected that since we know the guy as someone far from being a lady's man. But there we are, meeting him and his new girlfriend. He introduced her to us and vice versa. She was great. She's very nice and bubbly. Quite talkative. But we all vibed with her just fine.

The thing is, the way our friend treats her. We all saw how he treated his ex. And when we saw how he and his new gf interacted, his behavior, his personality around her, it was alarmingly similar to how it was back then with his ex. We talked to him about it. He said he just couldn't help it. He felt like his world was falling apart and he wanted to feel the same feeling he felt with his ex. But he knew his ex won't come back anymore, so he sought it out from another person.

It was fucked up. Really. We understand where he was coming from, but it doesn't change the fact that it was still f‐ed up. His current gf knew none of it. And we saw how she loved our friend. It was literally like a bomb, unstable, threatening to explode. No one deserved to be treated in such a way. So we discussed, debated, argued with each other if we should do something. At the end, we don't really have the right to interfere, so we just made the guy swear that he'd stop treating his gf like with how he did with his ex or just break the relationship.

We weren't sure if we did the right thing. But what we're sure about is that no one deserves to be a replacement or a replica of the past. Esp when this person sees the future with you.

I am currently on the same position of your friend. I've been with a girl for a whole 3 years, my WHOLE highschool life and broke up after that. And 1 month later i've found another one. Yes. I treated her as if she's my ex, i sang her songs and read her poems that once i gave to my ex.

At surface level it might seem fucked up but it is just a way some people forget abouth the past. That is to cherish it.

My ex was my first 'real' girlfriend and my concept of "love" was taught by my experiences with her. I was still in teenage years so it was so damn deeprooted in my mindset. I cannot love other people without using the "love" i learned from my experience.

The important thing is that how my gf loves the way i treat her. 2 years have passed and while i cannot say for sure that i've forgot glimpses of my past, i sure have treated my new soulmate as how she deserves to be treated.

For your friend, let him be. Just tell him that dont he dare hurt her or abandon her after he "moved on". I did tell myself to NEVER abandon my current gf, because she's been with me for years, dark years. And she is the last person i will abandon beside my parents.

An ex of mine, the only person I truly loved at the time more than anything else who left only because of distance and us seeing each other for less than 4 months out of the year came back into my head lately. This is because after 5 years of not seeing each other, although I did try to reconnect a few time because we left on good terms and we loved each other so much at the time, I finally saw her in person a week ago. It was so nice to see her again, we were both finally at places in our lives where things felt stable and everything seemed to be fine and to my knowledge both of us were single and doing our own thing and everything was just going right with life. The next day after she had given me her new contact information for her new phone, which switching her phone number was one of the reasons why we never got together previously, I learned that she’d gotten married less than a month ago… The moment she told me this over text, time had stopped yet again only this time it wasn’t because I was enamored by her beauty like when we first met or when I took her to prom, the way it goes in a romantic sense, no. It was because I was having a panic attack And I didn’t know how to process and I just shut down. The day this song came out was the day that I received that text and the day that she switched her profile picture to her wedding photo. I’m good now and I’ve accepted that things happen for a reason but damn is it still hard to accept that this happened and there’s absolutely nothing I can do to change it. Beautiful song , just gets me every time I listen to it.

Not that anyone will care but I dated a girl in NJ she was from Brazil for Three years, and when covid hit she over stayed her visa in America and her mom got sick so she moved back to Brazil to help her mom and now she’s not aloud back in America for 10 years. This was a situation I was in for awhile during a 3 year relationship. Would you rather run the relationship into the ground so you hate each other and there's never a chance for reconciliation? Or would you rather take some time and space to heal and possibly still be in each other's lives? My ex and I broke up 2 years ago and we're friends now AFTER time to ourselves. In my time healing I found the sweetest person who has loved me in so many ways I didn't even know possible. If you love them, do what's best for both of you. Have a real conversation and take some space. Good luck, it's hard at first but does indeed get better. I wouldn't be anywhere near as happy with my life had I not made that one painful decision 2 years ago.
