El Navegante
Chalino Sanchez Lyrics

A esos rumbos me hicieron partir
The lyrics of Chalino Sánchez's El Navegante tell the story of a man who is traveling on trains in the south when he meets a beautiful indigenous woman selling bouquets of flowers. He buys a bouquet from her and is enchanted by her. He tells her not to sell her flowers to anyone else and, as he listens to the song of a bird, he realizes that he has found the most beautiful flower of all: the indigenous woman.
However, fate intervenes when he has to leave the woman and go away. He later goes back to look for her but cannot find her. Years later, an old woman gives him a withered bouquet of flowers from the indigenous woman and tells him that she has passed away. The man is devastated, having lost his only love.
The lyrics of the song show the power of love and how it can transcend time and distance. It also portrays the importance of cherishing moments and people when we have them, as we never know when we might lose them. The song’s emotional lyrics, paired with Chalino Sánchez's raw and emotive voice, make it a classic in Mexican folklore.

Navegando en los trenes del sur
Travelling on the Southern trains
A una indita muy linda encontré
I found a beautiful indigenous girl
Que vendía ramilletes de flores
Who sold bouquets of flowers
Recorriendo las vías del tren
Walking along the train tracks
Encantado de aquella morena
Enchanted by that brunette girl
Le compre un ramito para mi
I bought her a bouquet for myself
And when I put the coin in her hands
A la indita formal dije así
To the indigenous girl I formally said
Hay indita que vendes tus flores
Oh, indigenous girl who sells flowers
No le vendas a nadie por dios
Don't sell them to anyone, for God's sake
And when a little trumpet sounded
Tuve toda la mas linda flor
I had the most beautiful flower
But time and the waves brought me back
A esos rumbos me hicieron partir
To those places I had to leave
I looked for the indigenous girl at the station
Pero en cambo mi tiempo perdí
But instead, I wasted my time
Hasta que una señora ya anciana
Until an elderly lady
Mis tristezas deseaba saber
Wanted to know my sorrows
Me entrego un ramillete marchito
She gave me a withered bouquet
Y me dijo aquí esta su merced
And said, here is your request
The one you came to look for is already dead
Y al partir este ramo dejo
And she left this bouquet when she left
Se la entrega al señor pasajero
She gives it to the passenger
Who was my only love in life
