We'll Meet Again
Vera Lynn Lyrics

Let's say goodbye with a smile, dear
Just for a while, dear, we must part
Don't let this parting upset you
I'll not forget you, sweetheart

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day

Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies chase
Those dark clouds far away

And I will just say hello
To the folks that you know
Tell them you won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That, as I saw you go
You were singing this song

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day

And I will just say hello
To the folks that you know
Tell them you won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That, as I saw you go
You were singing this song

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day

It was my Nan's funeral today. They played this song and people cried and swayed to the music. This song made the funeral more human. It allowed more tears to flow while a occasionally smiling at happy thoughts of my Nan.

Thank you for sharing your story.

My Nan was 97 and experienced the war. But there was so little I knew about her due to family divide after my parents divorced. I came to know my Nan in my early adulthood. She was mischievous and had a glint about her, welcoming and always supplied a £10 note in my Christmas card.
I'm grateful for what I knew of her, but this song helps me imagine her younger, dancing and being her just with more energy and movement.

Your story has helped me today. I see more of her history.

Thank you

Alaina

The gramophone played in the background, We’ll meet again sounding through the house. The time appeared to be non-existent in the room, the man staring at the white wall, a simple blank face displaying. Glass in hand, he sipped his scotch, arching a brow.

The room seemed to display a 1960 vintage style, the man dressed in a brown and white tuxedo, the scotch glass adorning  a vintage design. The white wall stood there, the man's gaze not daring to leave it. And that was how it was, an unending gaze towards the wall as unending time surrounded it. The floor was decorated with bodies, blood painting the walls except the white one.

Each body was dressed as dolls, their skin as pale as the wall, while their clothes were as fancy as the man in the chair. The man in the chair has a glass. The glass is white like the wall. The wall is the brightest in the room, as the blood slowly falls down the walls. The walls are watching the man as he watches the wall. If he looks back, he will die.

The man now has a red blotch on his chest, he is dead. He looked back. The only thing in the room now is the music, the white wall, and the man. There is someone new in the chair. They are staring at the wall, The gramophone seeming to be as un-ending as the time.

They can not look back, a wine glass in hand. The wine glass is red. There is a red wall, the other walls are vintage white, while black blood seems to seep down them. This is eternity, never ending. Time is endless, as is the wall and its victim. The gramophone seems to be bleeding now. It is hurt. The man with wine is dead, wine falling from the glass to the ground like a waterfall.

There’s another man.

We’ll meet you some day.
Don’t where.
Don’t when.
But we know we’ll see you smile in the heavens above.
We’ll see you there, at heaven’s gate.
To see you sing.
To hear your laugh.
And you’ll always be the warmth in our heart.
Edit: farewell, Kera Lynn

I sung this at my schools talent show and when my grandma saw the recording she started to cry. She was born in 1940 in England. She lived through the bombings and constantly had to live in bomb shelters. She always remembers her father playing this song on his accordion and how he got everyone singing along. Now she’s 80 (as of November 2020) and she has lost her only daughter, her second son, her husband, her parents, one of her her grandsons, and her two sisters. My two cousins and I are the only thing that brings her joy in life. We’ll meet again is a major part of our relationship and I feel it brings us closer together.

@gp travis I'm an introvert too, because of COVID we were doing an online talent show so I just submitted a video of me singing. Sorry I couldn't answer your question. You definitely should sing that song at your graduation it would be amazing for your classmates.
