Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is the breakfast club

Bring me coffee in the know
See the taffu on the send
I got sunshine, I got you, oh
There's nothing, nothing life can do oh oh oh

Yeah yeah, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Yeah yeah, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Yeah yeah, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Yeah yeah, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya

Bring me junkie in the love
He said nothing in the tongue
To kill the model from my door, oh yeah
To kill the model from my door

Yeah yeah, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Yeah yeah, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Yeah yeah, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Yeah yeah, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya

To kill the model from my door, oh yeah
To kill the model from my door
From my door
From my door
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Man Research" by Gorillaz are abstract and somewhat nonsensical, yet they convey a feeling of chaos and anxiety. The song begins by setting the scene in "the breakfast club," where the singer makes a request for coffee "in the know." This may refer to a need for insider information, or it could simply be a request for coffee made with expertise. The next line, "see the taffu on the send," is more difficult to interpret, but may refer to some kind of code or signal.

The chorus features a repeated phrase of "Yeah yeah, ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya," which is both satisfyingly catchy and devoid of concrete meaning. The second verse introduces a new character, "junkie in the love," who speaks "nothing in the tongue." It's unclear what this means, but it could suggest a lack of communication or perhaps a sense of disconnect from reality.

The final lines, "to kill the model from my door," are repeated twice, suggesting that this is a key message of the song. It's unclear who or what the "model" represents, but the singer seems eager to be rid of it. Overall, "Man Research" is a disorienting and somewhat unsettling song that captures the feeling of being adrift in a confusing world.

This song is so Gorillaz. Normally when listening to their music I can only picture Damon singing, but this one really makes me envision 2-D as the voice behind it.

@ElectricFury

I think for me any song where he sings falsetto I only imagine 2-D. (And many of the Humanz tracks where he's singing through that speaker device that makes it slightly more electronic and muffled)

@Joe-my2um

Well during the debut album, Damon was really trying to sounds like 2D in the songs but he decided to stop in demon days, which is sad because I really like his voice in the debut

@2-d_in_a_bag

i like both because the higher voice totally sounds like him. but i also love the idea that he could go from his voice in the eel g-bite to his parts in the song saturnz barz.

@ZurditaDinamita

I thought everybody could picture 2D singing, no matter the album or song. Maybe I can do it easily because I'm not a Blur fan šŸ¤”

@michaelboydston313

This album is really the only one that plays with the members maybe being real, as it builds the kind of world they live in, and is one of a few albums to name the characters directly in the lyrics
