Whoa
Paramore Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've hoped for change
It gets better everyday
I've hoped for change
But still I feel the same
There's something wrong
'Cause everybody knows
That we can do this on our own

And we got everybody singing
Whoa, whoa-oh, whoa whoa-oh
And we got everybody singing
Whoa, whoa-oh, whoa whoa-oh

We're doing fine
And it gets better every time
We're doing fine
But I'll let you decide
There's something wrong
'Cause everybody knows
That we can do this on our own

And we got everybody singing
Whoa, whoa-oh, whoa whoa-oh
And we got everybody singing
Whoa, whoa-oh, whoa whoa-oh

And I'll confess
That I can be a little selfish
Yeah I'll admit
I don't want you to help me through this
I don't want to start over again

And we got everybody singing

And we got everybody singing
Whoa, whoa-oh, whoa whoa-oh
And we got everybody singing
Whoa, whoa-oh, whoa whoa-oh

And I'll confess
That I can be a little selfish
I can, I can
Yeah, I'll admit
I don't want you to get me through this
I don't want to start over again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Paramore's song "Whoa" convey a sense of both hope and desperation. The singer has been hoping for change but still feels the same, indicating a frustration with the lack of progress they have seen. The lines "There's something wrong / 'Cause everybody knows / That we can't do this on our own" suggest a recognition that they need help to make the changes they desire.

The chorus of "Whoa whoa oh whoa whoa oh" can be interpreted as a call for unity and collective action. The repetition of the phrase "everybody singing" emphasizes the importance of working together towards a common goal. The second verse continues this theme, with the singer acknowledging that while they may be "doing fine," they still need others to help them succeed.

The final lines of the song reveal a vulnerability on the part of the singer. They confess to being selfish and not wanting to start over again. This admission adds complexity to the song's themes of hope and unity, suggesting that personal struggles and insecurities can complicate efforts to make collective change.

Man,I'm glad that I'm not the only one to feel this way...
Most of the people who complain about Paramore's change are those people who think that how hard a band can play is the only parameter to determine if a rock band is legitimate or not, which is stupid because this rule kinda standardizes punk music and punk rock is against standardization(or at least it's supposed to be against standardization), and also because this rule probably has something to do with boys parading their masculinity and ,consequentely, following the very same social conventions which punk rock used to make fun of glam metal for following...
