I always cry when I listen to this song. My dad was a huge Bob Dylan fan, owned all his records, all the bootlegs, all the biographies. In my early childhood i just remember his annoying nasal voice and that god awful harmonica and telling my dad how bad the music was. I never understood how he could listen to that garbage. When I was 17 he was diagnosed with liver cancer, and in less than a year he passed away.
I always associated Bob Dylan with my dad, and so wanting to remember his, i dug up the old CD's and started ripping them onto my itunes library. Now i was 18 and could actually understand the quality of dylans songwriting and I started exploring his entire discography. I now consider him one of my favourite top 10 artists of all time.
Now most of his music as melancholic as this song, but the sadness combined with remembering my dad always listening to dylan telling me i would understand what a genius this man was when i grew up. I grew up, I understood what a musical genius Bob Dylan is, and all i wanna do is be able to talk to my dad and discuss his works whenever i listen to it, but my dad passed away before I had the chance to do that.

Sorry if the formatting of this comment is shitty, i just really miss my dad right now and im just writing without thinking of the structure.

Bob Dylan reminds my of my dad too, so I can relate to what you're saying. Now, my dad wasn't such a die-hard fan, but he wasn't that good with music in general, and Dylan was the only recurring artist throughout his life. My dad would refer to him on various occasions and I got to love his music even as a kid. Blowin' in the Wind was my dad's favorite song and so it's dear to my heart to this day.

A lot of Bob Dylan's songs that I love are quite sad, but they're somehow very comforting. They give an odd feeling of acceptance.

This song means so much to me.
I lost my father to cancer 2 years ago. We weren’t really close until the end, but eventually, I could understand everything he was trying to say even though he couldn’t talk anymore. We ended up bonding over music (talking heads, the strokes, Bob Dylan, etc) which was his true passion. When he still had his voice box and could sing people would compare his voice to Bob Dylan’s a fair amount. He loved to play the guitar too, but he eventually got arthritis and couldn’t play anymore. Eventually, we thought the cancer was gone (according to doctors) but it wasn't true. He decided to hide it from us. I think he thought he was protecting us, even though it caused more damage than good. I don't have any recordings of his voice so all I really have of him is Dylan since they sounded similar. This song represents breakups for most people, but for me it represents passing. A lot of the lyrics in this feel like he's talking directly to me, so I find myself coming back to this song a lot even though it breaks my heart a bit.

Dang it Julia, you almost made me cry. The oldest brother loved Dylan too. I used to play lead guitar while my brother played the cords and sang. He was a real hippie and died at 58. He's been gone 15 years and it still sucks. Take care my friend and thanks for sharing

Played this song on a loop after I was dumped. The infamous last verse in particular. Fast forward a few months, the pandemic is in full swing and I'm taking a stroll through my neighborhood on a hot summer day at dusk, headphones on and my Spotify on shuffle. This song starts playing, flooding back memories and just as the lyrics kick in, I happen to turn my head and see my ex's face through a window. In profile. Eyes fixed on a woman sitting next to him. I blink thinking my nostalgic brain is playing tricks on me. It makes no sense because he doesn't even live here. But no, it's him alright. My legs keep walking of their own accord, but not fast enough to avoid seeing him lean as their lips meet in a kiss.

@plasticgallery Yes - I heard that years ago (didn't know it was available on here) and thought it was a decent version though not nearly as slick/clean. I got the impression he'd worked on it but stuttered and not quite got that quick 7th note and one or two other subtleties. Also, the absence of the harp on the Witmark demo version had me doubting too in that the album version was so pure and sharp. It's testimony to the enduring appeal of this man's music that we debate these things after all these years. Dylan's music has given me such joy and guitar/harp playing inspiration over the last 60 years ( far beyond other artists) that I believe he's helped me in so many aspects of my life.

@plasticgallery I've studied Dylan's guitar style in detail since 1962 when I first heard his 1st album. I've spent thousands of hours learning guitar with his style as my main focus. Long before video and the internet I had only my ears and occasional visual clips of his playing to work on. There is no substitute for your ears, and then you reach some point when you actually visualise fingers on strings. Fingerstyle playing is a fingerprint. The iconic 7th note on the 1st string on DTT is THE definitive part of that fingerprint, and that is missing from any other recordings of Dylan playing this song. There are other markers too that prove the difference in style. Dylan was a brilliant guitar player, but he did not play on that classic, brilliant version on the Freewheelin album - no way (and I am fully aware of the attempts to credit it to Dylan, including the spoof trial transcripts - very amusing).

Its amazing how songs come to your memory at the right moment. I've heard this song before many times and I REALLY liked it but the lyrics never really applied to me. Here I was years without listening to this song and I just went through a short, waste-of-my-time-we-can-be-friends-its-not-you-its-me-maybe-in-the-future relationship with someone who I initially thought could be the ONE and this song came immediately to my mind. Im not new into relationships Im a 36 year old male and I have been in both sides of the table, but somehow I committed one of the most basic sins in relationships which is to idealize the other person. So here I am listening to this song trying to cope with my sadness but man, this song REALLY REALLY helped me today to feel better. When I first heard this back in the early 60's, I didn't know about Dylan, and I didn't know if he was 17 or 70. The voice was like no other. All I remember is the song knocked me off my feet. I was around 14 or 15 years old. The message is as powerful now as it ever was.

One of the most relatable songs that could ever exist, if you are passing through rough break-up times. Specially if you just advanced the stage of totally hate to the other, and move up to a period of a combination of nostalgia about what could have been ("But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say , to try and make me change my mind and stay"), and an apathic-little negative feeling about that person ("You could have done better but I don't mind , you just kinda wasted my precious time").

I started listening to Dylan when I was about four years old. His rhyming style became my nursery rhymes by the time I was five I knew the words to it's alright Ma and I have my father to thank for that. Through the eighties I was into the punk scene but never let Dylan go. I thought it was great that bands like the Minutemen had respect for him too. As a bass player it definitely matter to me what the Minutemen thought. Not nearly as much as my dad though. Thank you so much Billy for being there for me and teaching me about life. I still remember having a joint on the terrace of a building near my uni campus in Sitaphalmandi, and then suddenly this song came on from the Senior's penthouse room (which was so clean, in a sepia tone and with incandescent lights. Akhilesh if you ever read this, your room had amazing vibes. I remember this specifically because before you moved in, it was Sishir's room and it had absolutely zero vibes) and there was a strong wind too that day. I was in love with my college sweetheart at that time and didn't quite grasp this was a breakup song. Just made me feel ominous or something.

But whenever this song comes up now, I've mixed feelings of that day, the wind, the terrace, sepia-toned clean room of my Senior in college. Could a room give vibes? I think this song that windy evening made that room alive.

My relationship of 5 and a half years just ended. I've had a lot of time to reflect and think about everything. I messed up a lot in that relationship, and was a pretty horrible person for a lot of it. I wish her nothing but happiness now that she's moved on. I was 9 years old when Mr. Dylan released this song in 1963. I enjoyed the guitar picking in it and the rawness of the voice but I had no clue how valuable the words would become for me until at 18 I met the girl who would be the reason I found salvation in the lyric. Thank you for that, Bob.

Love this song! The guitar playing, singing, that damn harmonica! Love it! I wanna learn how to do that. Play harmonica and guitar at the same time. Serious talent there. Sounds harder than hell.

I’m fairly young, in 7th grade as of now. Some of his music I don’t understand yet and that’s perfectly fine. I still resonate with his profound words and lines that each sound like poem in itself. I think that just goes to show two things,
1) the fact that Dylan is a literal genius

He just thoroughly learned one style, the Merle Travis one he uses here. Usually, he chords --cleanly and accurately and sometimes fas --, but he mainly chords. He sure did some excellent folk playing on Good as I been to you and *World Gone Wrong*.
