This is quite remarkable film stock. I got my first rolls of B&W film in 40 years from the lab last week. I was really expecting something more like this Spur 50 from my Ilford Ortho 80 since it is a rather slow film. I also shot the Rollei RPX 100 for comparison. These two film stocks look similar in the eyes of a beginner except the Ilford is more contrasty. They were both much more grainy than I expected so I wonder how the higher speed films will look like. I thought the ISO was a quite good indicator on how grainy film is so this Spur 50 must be something special.

@FilmPhotography

Thanks for your comment. I am not a fan of the Ortho 80 used it once and it was not that good. If you are looking for High contrast and low grain. Look at Adox CMS 20Ii but that requires special processing. It can be developed in other developers I did post one a while back. Another one to look at is Rollei Blackbird. It also could be the lab you are using there developer they are using. Jason

I'm currently working my way through a bulk roll of Adox HR50 which, like the Spur film, has almost no grain but gives a broader range of mid-tones- at least when developed in Adox HRDEV developer. It's worth a try if you want a very fine grain film.

@FilmPhotography

Thanks for your comment I am yet to try the Adox HR50 bit will give it a try.

@rahmanmohammadpour

Do you have any recommendations for developing it with Tetenal Ultrafin T-plus?

@FilmPhotography

HI Sorry I do not I would do what I did in the video where I develop one frame then get a timing for it. Thanks for your comment.

@brettrogers8482

Did I miss where you informed the Exposure Index you used for this film? It's all very well to labour the need to expose it accurately—but without this key piece of information—how are viewers to meaningfully interpret your results?

@FilmPhotography

Well thanks Brett I used work Exposure 4 times in a 10 min video. Did I not mention at the start its a 50 ISO film? Dont you think if I was pushing or pulling it I would have said something? I even had to experiment the development time.

@brettrogers8482

@@FilmPhotography It's repackaged microfilm. EI 50 isn't just a push, it's a shove. Next time: be explicit please? Those of us who know what we're doing will be informed by your choice of Exposure Indices for such a special purpose film. The detail you have obtained might well be addictive. Thanks very much for the response, it is appreciated!
Best,
Brett
