Baby Come On
+44 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She's a pretty girl. She's always falling down
And I think I just fell in love with her
But she won't ever remember, remember

And I can always find her at the bottom of a plastic cup
Drowning in drunk sincerity
A sad and lonely girl
Quit crying your eyes out
Quit crying your eyes out and, Baby come on
Isn't there something familiar about me?
The past is only the future with the lights on
Quit crying your eyes out, Baby

And she said,
I think we're running out of alcohol. Tonight, I hate this fucking town
And all my best friends will be the death of me
But they won't ever remember, remember

So please take me far away, before I melt into the ground
And all my words get used against me
This sad and lonely girl

Quit crying your eyes out
Quit crying your eyes out and, Baby come on
Isn't there something familiar about me?
The past is only the future with the lights on
Quit crying your eyes out, Baby

Quit crying your eyes out
Quit crying your eyes out and, Baby come on
Isn't there something familiar about me?
The past is only the future with the lights on
Quit crying your eyes out, Baby

Isn't there something familiar about me?
Quit crying your eyes out

The past is only the future with the lights on
So quit crying your eyes out, Baby

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to +44's "Baby Come On" depict a relationship with a girl who is struggling with loneliness and alcohol abuse. The singer expresses his love for her, despite her drunken state and her inability to remember their encounters. The girl is described as a "pretty girl", but one who is "always falling down", both literally and metaphorically. The singer seems to identify with her, stating that there is "something familiar" about him, suggesting that he too has struggled with similar problems in the past.

The song captures the feeling of being trapped in a cycle of self-destructive behavior, with the girl seemingly resigned to her fate, and the singer only able to plead with her to come away with him before she "melts into the ground." The chorus is a plea for the girl to stop crying and to come with him, with the singer holding out hope that they can overcome their past and carve out a brighter future together.

The song speaks to the power of addiction and the ability of love to conquer even the strongest of demons. It is a powerful and emotive track that resonates deeply with anyone who has struggled with addiction or loneliness.

+44 is an alternative rock band formed in 2005 by Blink-182 members Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker. The band name refers to the international dialing code of the United Kingdom, the country where Hoppus and Barker first discussed the project.

@Bennyboy1985

Man this takes me back to 2007, working in hospitality and coming home at 6am after a 12 hour shift then playing this album as I closed the blinds and lay in bed to get a few hours of sleep...

@Derek_Wyld

I hope life is making you happier now you deserve it :) I miss my past because it hurt less than the present tbh, been doing some nostalgia-music-listening-to these days 😔😌

@@Derek_Wyld

In many ways yes, life is making me happier. Even if (in many ways) it's more complex than it was back then.

@VRCPuck

@@Bennyboy1985 the thought of you going home and lying down is so nostalgic to me even though I was never there....

Good to see you're happy all these years later and this song reminds you of your past and the progress you've made from there. Live life to the full and be all you can be <3

Man White Sox winning the World Series , +44 dropping this 🔥, Eddie Guerrero passing. 2005 was a year to remember. 16 years later and this album hits harder in retrospect than when your 12 years old.

@JDMJACOB1

I remember being on a blink phase during this time as a kid. When +44 came out, I loved “When your heart stops beating” and slowly came to love every song on this album. I was hoping so much for another album. But I’m happy for this. Still holds up extremely well to this day as a young adult. One of my favorite albums of all time.

@hahahajackmyswag

Nobody cares about the white sux. Eddie Guerrero was pretty great though

@camma375

We are all praying for you Mark. Your my idol ❤️
