Ratzinger was the creative force behind Wumpscut, occasionally employing the help of others as guest artists. Ratzinger cites the influence of such bands as Leæther Strip as his reason for making the transfer from DJing to recording music.
The release of the song "Soylent Green", which is named after the 1973 movie and also contains audio samples from the German dubbed version, first attracted attention to Wumpscut. Since its release in 1993, it has become a frequently played song at events and clubs in the gothic and industrial subcultures and its associated splinter groups, both in Germany and the United States.
So far Ratzinger has published numerous recordings and remixes for other artists. Wumpscut is also very well known for elaborate box set releases including limited versions of a CD or LP release in a box with additional and often also limited bonus material (bonus tracks, energy drinks, posters, pins, stickers, bags, flags, etc.). Wumpscut albums are reissued regularly with variant artworks and occasionally bonus tracks. Standalone merchandise is also available such as caps, mugs, etc.

Down Where We Belong

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Some have all the luck some just live in dirt
There are several types of the color of the skin
But what's crucial is to lose or win
You feel so alive where the eagles cry
And you feel so strong on a mountain high
But in fact you are at his bottom just
His unattainable top seems to be a must
We will stay down
Down where we belong
And the rain keeps knocking on our mother earth
And the snow keeps falling is it really worth
To live through this ache and to die at last
When you're predestined and the die is cast
Our thoughts are fading in a time that melts
Our flesh is fading as we've always felt
But we kid ourselves to meet heaven's feast
To rise up to god and to be released
We will stay down
Down where we belong
You belong to us to the human scrap
Which will never win and succumbs in traps
That are set by others with deceitfulness
And you stumble into with thankfulness
No one knows if we are to survive the storm
But I tell you man you are just a worm
Just a little error on a hopeless crust
You are sleazy man and your limbs will rust
We will stay down
Down where we belong.
The lyrics of "Down Where We Belong" by :Wumpscut: delves into the themes of inequality, despair and acceptance of the cards that one has been dealt with. The first verse highlights the disparities that exist among people - some people are lucky, while others live in dirt. The color of one's skin is inconsequential as it is all about winning or losing. The lyrics of the song suggest that despite popular belief, being on top is not necessarily the best place to be, as the closer one is to the top, the further they have to fall. The lyrics question the worth of the struggle to survive and how one's fate is predestined from the beginning.
In the second verse, the lyrics mention how time and the elements are gradually eroding the existence of the people on the earth. Life becomes nothing more than a struggle to survive until one ultimately meets their demise. However, people still grasp onto the hope of being rewarded in the afterlife. The lyrics allude to the idea that the reality that we create for ourselves is nothing but a delusion.
In the third verse, the lyrics emphasize the insignificance of humans in the grand scheme of things. People are merely "human scraps" who are caught in traps. Ultimately, people are unsure if they will survive the storm, and the treacherous conditions will lead to their end. The lyrics call attention to the fact that people are mere specks in a vast universe, vulnerable and fragile.
