Stammheim
[:SITD:] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

German autumn
Difficult times
Armed resistance
Numerous crimes

Extreme act of violence
An attack from the rear
A shot in the head
Revolution was here

Radical actions
Radical change
Innocent victims
People are strange

Chorus:
Stammheim calling
Movement 2nd June
Solitary confinement
Death is coming soon
How violence can develop
And where it can lead
Stammheim calling
Movement 2nd June

Dawn of terror
Divided nation
Riots and protests
Self-induced starvation

A concrete vision
A common idea
A wrong decision
Revolution was here

Der Mensch ist eine Krankheit

Chorus

Stammheim calling

Chorus

Overall Meaning

The song "Stammheim" by [:SITD:] revolves around the events of the German Autumn, which was a period of political violence in the Federal Republic of Germany in the late 1970s. The song reflects on the era of conflict between the West German state and the radical left-wing groups, particularly the Red Army Faction (RAF) and their involvement in numerous crimes and acts of violence. The lyrics of the song describe the radical actions and their impact on innocent victims during this time.

Throughout the song, the chorus of "Stammheim calling, Movement 2nd June. Solitary confinement, death is coming soon" refers to the imprisonment and trial of the RAF leaders Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin, Jan-Carl Raspe, and Ulrike Meinhof in Stammheim Prison. The song portrays this as a symbolic moment that resulted from extreme violence and radical actions, leading to a society that is divided and in turmoil. The lyrics express a sense of caution and warning about how violence can develop and escalate, portraying humanity as a disease.

[:SITD:]'s "Stammheim" is a powerful and thought-provoking portrayal of social unrest that explores the idea of revolution and its consequences. The song illustrates how our actions can lead to unintended consequences and the destructive impact of radical ideology. Through its powerful lyrics and haunting melody, the song invites the listener to reflect on the lessons of history and the need for recognizing the importance of peaceful and constructive dialogue to bring positive change.

Man weiß ja nie!
