The lyrics of the song “The Prodigy” delve into themes of street life, loyalty, and the harsh realities of growing up in a tough environment. The opening lines, “Talk stupid bust yo head watch yo blood leak,” evoke a sense of aggression and defensiveness, setting a scene marked by violence and confrontation. The use of stark imagery demonstrates the gritty nature of the life described, where words can provoke dangerous reactions. The artist also touches upon a sense of fearlessness in the face of peril, noting that many individuals are “too scary” to confront these realities directly. This notion highlights the divide between those who embrace this lifestyle and those who opt to stay away from conflict.
As the lyrics progress, a significant theme emerges surrounding loyalty, particularly in relationships. The artist expresses a profound affection for his partner, stating, “I’m in love with my ole lady / She been down the most.” This reinforces the idea that amidst the chaos and violence, there exists a stable, grounding force in his life. The contrasts between romantic devotion and street bravado further illustrate the complexity of his identity; one can be deeply caring in personal relationships while also being entrenched in a life marked by aggression and posturing. There’s a sense of reliance on this love as a source of strength and motivation, particularly in light of the violence faced in his surroundings.
Additionally, the reference to familial bonds and the loss of friends serves to humanize the tough exterior portrayed. Lines stating, “I almost seen my mama get killed / So glad she ain't dead,” and “Rip to my nigga Nate I miss you till this day,” underline the weight of grief and loss that permeates his life. Such experiences shape the emotions and motivations described throughout the song, driving the artist to work hard “to put a smile on her face.” This personal narrative reveals a softer side to the artist, contrasting with the aggression elsewhere in the song; it showcases how the past influences the present and highlights the pain that motivates his relentless pursuit of success and stability.
Finally, the lyrics reflect the pressures of proving oneself in a competitive and often dangerous environment. Phrases like “I ain’t rapping for the fame I just want the blue” and “I ain’t no crip but I want them blue faces” illustrate a desire for financial success rather than superficial recognition. The fixation on money serves as a primary motivator for the artist, emphasizing that he seeks to rise above his circumstances. Ultimately, the narrative consolidates around a harsh yet relatable truth: survival and success in a world riddled with conflict demand an unyielding resolve and unbreakable loyalty, whether to one’s friends, family, or personal values. These layers of experience resonate throughout the lyrics, painting a complex portrait of life on the streets.

Sorry for the long post!
I don't think Music will be less valuable, because you have to go and buy a casette, you have to work for it, I think It's much better that we have the variety, we have the chance to chose what we like, what is our style, what fits us, we can select our favourite band. I mean I never would've thought I would like nearly every musical style (only genres I dislike: rap/hiphop, techno, trance, hardtechno, and I couldn't really find any great breakbeat.). And really think about that, if we were in the 90s and the radio and television would only broadcast generic mainstream or "old but goodie", what would all be listening to, yep only to those two things. (I think when I first listened to electronic music I was 15, and that's because I was living in small village somewhere in the middle of nowhere, maybe even beyond that. That's because I've started using internet to explore new things not just playing games.)
About Desocialization caused by the internet, yeah that's a real problem in my opinion, but maybe a generation following us will have more understanding of how they should use the vast opportunities lying within the Internet. They were born into this new type of socialization, and we just learned how to hit an old "haven't-seen-in-a-long-time" friends with a birthday wish, or a funny link.
And yet I'm sharing my opinion about music on a wall where a lot of stranger can read it, crticise it, or start bashing it, or simply write a similar opinion, from the other side of the world. While listening the same song...
Music scene has changed, yes. Let's face it Prodigy, Daft Punk, Dave Brubeck, AC/DC, Rush, Thelonius Monk, Whitney Houston, Ennio Morricone, James Brown,, and we can sit here and start saying great musicians all day/night long. They were/are all wonderous, some of them revolutionalized music, some of them still has new tricks up there slaves, many idolize them, love them, But they were kings only in an Era bygone. They surfed the waves and they're still on the top, but they're not the ones represents 21th century, nor these new generic pop musicians, who will be forgotten in 5 years time. (believe me or not, in the 20th century in our "golden age" of music there were a lot of "produced" popstar, they just have been forgotten)
The new generation of great artist are not on the television anymore (because the television became obsolete), instead they moved to the internet. They are on youtube, soundcloud, what not, they offer a variety of great music. Some of them inspired by the great old names, few of them actually try to find (or make) a new frontier in music. If you want I can give you a few links if you'd like to hear what I'm talking. And here lies the problem, most of them don't have much support, only a few distributors, who help themshow ther music to the world.
I just had to get it out of my system, I'm a bit upset, that everyones is bashing "Today's music" because I still find gems made fresh that can move me like...I kinda believe you know what I'm talking about.
And I just realized, few of them see my comment as bashing some great musician. Or attract some Grammar Nazis, because I speak Globish, not the Queen's bloody English...

@@NocturnalSessionsDJ True.
But it needs mostly just patience, so if things are interesting (or you are just curious) and you have some kind of vision -that just happens. Still today.
New order made some own "instruments". And they used BOSS-Doctor Rythm-55 (released 1980) as they made EGG, Temptation, Blue Monday, etc. It had three channels (mono ) where they computed those sequenzers they used 1981-1984. But first song they made with that drum machine was "Truth".
John Peel sessions they performed it better than version they have on their debut albun.
And those was made almost compeletly live and very fast.
FACTUS-2 (1981-1982) EP is just perfect...
Btw: The Perfect Kiss-music video (live, 1985, dir. J. Demme) with the whole lyrics and ~10min is "MUST SEE" -song to all who loves synths. It's epic video.
But this us about Prodigy and this era (1994-1997)brings/rises much of memories. Mostly those are connected to my high-school years.
