Dancing In The Dark
[unknown] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Listen if you're feeling blind
The grass glows
I feel my old portrait come alive
Anytime the mask's off
I scream out 'cause I know that

I'm back in my mind
Fields in an eye
Won't turn it off
Just to make sure I feel in myself

Distance
Fleeting time
I was once lost
(I'm a canvas)
A million thoughts drowned me down faded lines
(Made from a faucet of thoughts)
I was once gone
(I ain't a person)
But now I laugh louder 'cause
(Anymore)

I'm back in my mind
Fields in an eye
Won't turn it off
Just to make sure I feel in myself
And never ever let them change me
I want you to know
I'm here all alone and it's fine

I feel in myself
And never ever let them change me

I want you to know
I'm here all alone and it's fine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Dancing In The Dark" delve into a journey of self-discovery and emotional awakening, revealing a complex interplay of isolation, introspection, and resilience. The opening lines suggest a sense of being overwhelmed or "blind," yet there is a glimmer of hope represented by the glowing grass. This symbolizes a newfound awareness or clarity in the artist's life, where past experiences and memories, akin to an old portrait, resurface vividly when they are able to take off any metaphorical masks they have worn. The act of screaming signifies the release of pent-up emotions, suggesting that the singer has been holding back their true self and is finally ready to confront and embrace their authentic identity.

As the lyrics progress, the theme of "being back in my mind" implies a return to introspection and the mental landscapes that may have once felt overwhelming. The imagery of "fields in an eye" serves to evoke a deep sense of perception and contemplation, where the singer engages with their inner self. The insistence on not turning off this internal dialogue reveals a commitment to self-reflection and the importance of understanding one's emotions. This part of the song speaks to the idea of embracing one's thoughts and feelings without the desire to suppress them, creating a space where the singer can genuinely connect with themselves and reclaim their identity.

The mention of "distance" and "fleeting time" points to a journey through time and the transitions that have influenced the singer's sense of self. The lines reflect a struggle with feelings of being lost or anonymous, where the artist metaphorically characterizes themselves as a canvas that has been shaped by a flood of experiences—both good and bad. The phrase "made from a faucet of thoughts" suggests an overflow of feelings that can hinder clarity, yet through laughter, the singer emerges stronger. This transformation marks a turning point where they reject becoming a shadow of their former self, indicating personal growth and the ability to find joy in the midst of struggle.

Finally, the repeated affirmations of being "back in my mind" and the desire to be unchanged by external influences express a firm resolution to maintain a strong sense of self despite the pressures of the outside world. The acknowledgement of being "here all alone" hints at an acceptance of solitude, which is seen as a space for nurturing personal growth rather than a source of desolation. In conclusion, the singer's journey illustrates a powerful narrative of reclaiming identity, embracing one’s internal landscape, and finding solace in authenticity amidst adversity, driving home a message of self-acceptance and empowerment.

"暗闇の中でのダンス"

私は夕方に起きます
そして、私は何も言うことはありません
朝家に帰ります
同じ気持ちで寝ます
疲れただけじゃない
男私はただ疲れていて、自分自身に退屈しています
Hey there baby

Hey baby

@off9972

I get up in the evening
And I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
Man I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby I could use just a little help

You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark

Message keeps getting clearer
Radio's on and I'm moving 'round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face
Man I ain't getting nowhere just living
In a dump like this
There's something happening somewhere
Baby I just know that there is

You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark

You sit around getting older
There's a joke here somewhere and it's on me
I'll shake this world off my shoulders
Come on baby the laugh's on me

Stay on the streets of this town
And they'll be carving you up all right
They say you gotta stay hungry
Hey baby I'm just about starving tonight
I'm dying for some action
I'm sick of sitting around here trying to write
This book
I need a love reaction
Come on now baby gimme just one look

You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying
Over a broken heart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire worrying about
Your little world falling apart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark

Bittersweet song for me. My mom would drop whatever she was doing whenever this video came on and dance with Bruce. My mom passed away a month ago and this song will forever be a beautiful memory of her.

Update: Wow. So many likes! I really only posted this to share and vent a little bit. I really didn't think so many people would reply to and like my comment! You are all incredibly kind and thoughtful so thank you for that. May you all be blessed in this crazy time.
