More Than A Feeling
 Hit The Lights Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

It's more than a feeling
(More than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(More than a feeling)
I begin dreaming
(More than a feeling)
'Til I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky

It's more than a feeling
(More than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(More than a feeling)
I begin dreaming
(More than a feeling)
'Til I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped away

It's more than a feeling
(More than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(More than a feeling)
I begin dreaming

(More than a feeling)
'Til I see Marianne walk away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "More Than a Feeling" by Hit The Lights evoke a sense of nostalgia and sadness as the singer remembers a lost love while listening to an old song. The song opens with the singer gazing outside only to find that the sun has disappeared, prompting him to turn to music to lift his spirits. He loses himself in a familiar song, which takes him back in time, and he reminisces about his ex-girlfriend Marianne, who has walked away, leaving him alone with his memories.

The song is more than just an ode to lost love, however. It's a testament to the power of music to transport the listener to another time and place, to awaken dormant memories and emotions, and to offer solace in times of heartache. The singer states that when he's "tired and thinking cold," he can hide in his music and forget the day. In this way, music becomes a lifeline for him, a way to hold onto the past and to cope with the present.

Overall, "More Than a Feeling" is a beautifully written and emotive song that speaks to the universal human experience of love and loss. It reminds us that music is not just entertainment but a powerful force that can connect us to our memories, our emotions, and to each other.

this is great

SleepingWithPanic!AtTheDisco

This cover is good but it's just too god damn short. I mean the original is like 3 and a half minutes long probably even four mins long but it seems like HTL's just sped thru it like no tomorrow. Nonetheless it IS a great cover. I think Boston would be proud of these boys.

Sav 💕

Sometimes I search up the originals because I don't recognize them, but I didn't recognize this song at all. I searched it up and thought I had the wrong song because it's so different.

Zee The G Shep

Honestly I like this one more than the original. Like this one brought the original back to life

This is better than the original. Fight me.

ACE Music

Yeah, nowhere near the original but decent effort. At least they didn't throw a bunch of screaming and stuck to the original notes.

ShadowofATheory
