Unchained Melody

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My darling
I've hungered for your touch
A long lonely time
As time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love
To me
Lonely rivers flow
To the sea
To the sea
To the open arms
Of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh
"Wait for me, wait for me"
I'll be coming home
Wait for me.
Oh my love
My darling
I've hungered, hungered for your touch
A long lonely time
And I know that time goes by so slowly
That time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love
To me
Ooo ooo
The lyrics of LeAnn Rimes' song "Unchained Melody" are a heartbreaking plea for love and companionship. The song begins with the singer expressing her love and longing for her partner- "Oh my love, my darling, I've hungered for your touch, a long lonely time." The lyrics then reflect on the passage of time, how it can feel slow and unrelenting, yet it can also bring about significant changes in one's life- "As time goes by so slowly, and time can do so much, are you still mine?". The singer then repeatedly asks for her lover's love and for him to hurry back to her - "I need your love, I need your love, God speed your love to me".
The chorus of the song describes the rivers that flow to the sea, symbolizing the inevitability of time and life's journey. It seems as though the singer has spent all this time on her own, feeling lost and abandoned, but she knows that she needs her partner's love to make her whole again. The final verses of the song repeat this cycle of longing, love, and the passage of time, continually seeking a reunion with her beloved.

Bobby was doing this song " live" on the Andy Williams show in 1965, a live performance with no autotune, one take. What a god given voice bobby had. A very blessed individual. Any song that he sang, he put his own "spin" on it. He is dear l y missed after all these years, we are fortunate that we have the 🎶 to still listen too.
