Distance
Árstíðir (Arstidir) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Her lips caught my attention
first time I laid eyes...
with stories that filled us with life
New expression you taught us
that would come in hand
making tunes, friendship and rhymes

I'll be there by your side
to bring back some stories
and we will hear when we listen
how the old days went by
this woman will soon pass her time

Better the bonds, her way of life
a twist which some can't understand
Longer the hours until the end
more unpleasant the morning begins

This journey will soon be over
almost my promise I've kept to them
these ladies, you dared
to share what was there

a moment with the daughters
of the maple

Overall Meaning

The song "Distance" by Árstíðir is a heartfelt tribute to a group of women who have touched the singer's life. The opening lines describe how the singer was immediately drawn to one of the women because of her lips. The women's stories and expressions taught the singer about life and inspired him to create music and deepen his friendships. The singer promises to be there for these women to hear their stories and to honor their memories.

The next lines suggest that the women have a unique way of living and connecting with others that some people may not appreciate or understand. As time passes, the singer notes that the women are growing older and their journey together will inevitably come to an end. He is grateful for their willingness to share their lives with him and the other daughters of the maple, and he promises to carry on their legacy through his music.

Beautiful. Where have they been all my life? I'm glad I found them. Real musician.

Masterpiece!

@feuerspei8815

This song sounds like sitting inside in autumn as a kid. Like drinking hot chocolat while you watch the rain and listen to stories about heros and dragons and magical places.

@alessandrabengalensis9393

To hear this music is to love it, even if (like me) you don't understand Icelandic.  Back in the Jurassic Age I studied Old English, but Othere the Whalhunta wasn't even a fraction as wonderful as this!

@sasharenee1196

+Alessandra Bengalensis I don't know Icelandic but I want to sing their songs that are in Icelandic.

@Antilevitation

You're icelandic, why sing in english when your native language is so much more beautiful?

@TheDragonsRose

So we people who speak English can actually understand lol. They always have a variety anyways, I love their native language in other songs, but I also like understanding as well.
