Born and raised in the countryside of Iceland, Ásgeir Trausti comes from a family of musicians. He trained on classical guitar but was aiming for a career in sports when he suddenly made a U-turn after being encouraged to take his music more seriously. Ásgeir Trausti played (and still does) with the band Lovely Lion that did very well in the Icelandic Battle of the Bands in March this year. But it wasn't until he took some demos of his own songs to producer Gudmundur Kristinn Jonsson, also known as the guitarist in the Icelandic reggae band Hjálmar, that the wheels began to turn for real. Now, only several months later his debut album has been released in Iceland with critical acclaim. All songs are by Ásgeir Trausti but his father, Einar Georg Einarsson, and a friend, Julius Adalsteinn Robertsson, write lyrics. The album is so far only to be released in Iceland but an English version of it is in the making. For those who can't wait or just prefer Icelandic music with Icelandic lyrics, the Icelandic version of the album can be bought digitally on Icelandicmusic.com.
When performing, his friend Julius joins him on stage for the light version. For a full-blown version Ásgeir Trausti is backed-up by a band made up of experienced musicians, including three from reggae legends Hjálmar.
Going Home

My mind's already there
Yes, my mind is
Light, you're with me in the dark
Light my way at night
Let your light shine
The heaviest of weights
Knocks me to the ground
Right down to the
Dew that sparkles on the ground
Blue mountains loom above
Blue mountains loom
And I walk alone, one wish
Won't be forgotten
Never forget that
Long, is the path ahead
And though my body tires
And I have far to go
I know I'm going home
Know I'm going home
Know I'm going home
Know I'm going home
Know I'm going home
Home, I'm making my way home
My mind's already there
Yes, my mind is
Light, you're with me in the dark
Light my way at night
Let your light shine
Now, this burden weighs me down
The heaviest of weights
Knocks me to the ground
This burden weighs me down
Burden weighs me down
Burden weighs me down
Burden weighs me down
The lyrics to Ásgeir Trausti's song "Going Home" are a powerful expression of longing to return to a place of comfort and familiarity. The repetition of the phrase "My mind's already there" conveys a sense of mental escape, a desire to transcend the physical journey and arrive at the destination of home. The first verse introduces the idea of light as a guide through darkness, both literal and metaphorical, and the chorus reinforces the idea of mental preparation and anticipation.
The second verse shifts from the uplifting ideas of light and anticipation to a darker tone, with the idea of a heavy burden weighing down the singer. The juxtaposition of the weighty burden and the sparkling dew on the ground and looming blue mountains suggests a feeling of being weighed down by life's challenges, but still surrounded by beauty and nature. The final chorus brings the song full circle, with a renewed sense of determination to go home despite physical exhaustion and a long road ahead.
Overall, the lyrics of "Going Home" demonstrate a deep emotional connection to the idea of home, and the challenges that come with trying to return to that place of comfort and familiarity.

Dear Asgeir, I heard this song very often. It kills me every time. The magic of the circular harmonies turns off the brain and exposes the heart to an open sky. Thank you very much.
@ponchmonsterstudios
I listened to this song every day for the last 4 months of my pregnancy. My dad had a massive stroke and my anxiety was very high. This song helped to centre me and helped me sleep.

The backup singer is absolutely freakin incredible.

No, it's his friend, Júlíus. Ásgeir's brother is the singer in a band called "Hjálmar".
Like a true friend, Júlíus gave up a really good job paving roads to tour with Ásgeir, after only a little persuasion.
They're a joy to listen to.

This song (particularly this version) has never left me. So sweetly haunting it is

This will always remind me of travelling to my parents wonderful house in the Scottish Highlands just before it was sold. I knew it was the last time I would be going there. I was playing this as I took the last road there and could see the hills of The Isle of Arran in the distance across the water.

Why does this song not have a million more likes? He has the voice of an angel.

Found these people on accident, nothing led me here except for a thumbnail. A picture that looked like a man deep in thought or in pain. I had to click it to see what it was, it was beautiful.

this is one those songs that slowly creeps in. I needed several listens to truly appreciate the depth that this song has. The harmony vocals are an essential part of it.
