Landslide
ÄÏ·½Ð¡¼¦Dixie Chicks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I took my love and I took it down
Climbed a mountain then I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Uh ah
Uh ah
Uh ah

Well, I've been afraid of changin'
'Cause I built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older too

Well

Well, I've been afraid of changin'
'Cause I built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older too

Well, I'm getting older too

So, take this love and take it down
Yeah, and if you climb a mountain and ya turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide brought me down

And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills

Well maybe
Well maybe
Well maybe

The landslide will bring you down.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dixie Chick's song "Landslide" are an introspective reflection on life and the inevitability of change. The singer speaks about taking her love, which can be interpreted as her life or a relationship, and climbing a mountain only to be brought down by a landslide. The imagery of a landslide represents the uncontrollable forces of nature and their power over our lives. The singer questions the concept of love and whether the child within her heart can rise above the changing tides of life. She wonders if she can handle the seasons of life and the changes that come with it.

The singer also speaks about her fear of change and how she built her life around someone else. However, she acknowledges that time makes us bolder, and children grow older, and she is getting older too. The repetition of the line "I've been afraid of changin'" emphasizes the internal conflict the singer faces, trying to balance her fear of change with the inevitability of it.

I used to sing this at the top of my lungs to my husband Damon. 15 years of marriage and 4 kids later he was killed on his way to work one day 4 days after Christmas. Now I sing it to my children and miss the man we built our life around. Learning to continue on without you is the hardest. Damon, the children are getting older....RIP forever 37

@ratdaddee

I'm sure you have a beautiful voice, so keep singing to Damon because he's listening and watching over you and your children. Blessings.
