Harvest Moon
Äá¶ûÑï(Neil Young) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin'
We could dream this night away.

But there's a full moon risin'
Let's go dancin' in the light
We know where the music's playin'
Let's go out and feel the night.

Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.

But now it's gettin' late
And the moon is climbin' high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin' in your eye.

Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again

Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

Overall Meaning

In “Harvest Moon,” Neil Young sings about a couple who have been together for a while and are still in love. The song begins with Young asking his partner to come closer to him, to listen to what he has to say. He compares them to sleeping children who could dream the night away if they wanted to. However, Young doesn’t want to waste time dreaming. He sees the full moon rising and suggests that they go out and dance in the moonlight.

As they dance together, Young expresses his love for his partner. Despite their history and the fact that they were once strangers, Young has loved his partner “with all [his] heart” since they became lovers. Now that the moon is high and shining in their eyes, he wants to celebrate their love together.

Overall, “Harvest Moon” is a romantic and nostalgic song that encourages listeners to celebrate love and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. The full moon serves as a symbol for the beauty and magic of the moment.

. . . There is just s o v e r y m u c h
... that we know so very little about .
And then in our depths of both grief
and ' n o t - k n o w I n g ' . . . this
c o m e s - t o p a s s , meant in it's
most literal sense ... it is not a coincidence - they do not exist .
She IS alive and well - for the both of you
dear fellows listed above - and all others
who know of such days and nights .
They know of our deepest sorrows and will
send ' s I g n s ' to reassure us that
' a l l i s w e l l ' .
No , I've never heard a Neil Young song
being played in a store or supermarket,
except just the once and that is one hell of a ratio .
It was ' H a r v e s t M o o n ' .

Not sure if any one’s gonna read this, but I’m 15 and started highschool recently and I have terrible anxiety. I listen to this song almost everynight before school and it calms me down so much. It’s like a routine now I always look forward to listening to this. Thanks neil young for this song 🧡 Edit: hey guys, I’m 16 now getting ready to be a sophomore. I have hope for this year wish me luck 🧡🧡

In the hallway between classes, stand off to the side for a moment or two. Look for someone with their head down, avoiding eye contact and just putting one foot in front of the other. See if you can find them after that class. Approach quietly and say to them "Hello, my name is Ginny. I feel the same way." See what happens. I have found that if I can connect/help someone else, my own anxiety quiets down a bit. Peace.
