Kashmir
Æë°ØÁÖ·ÉͧLed Zeppelin Lyrics

Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
And stars fill my dream
I'm a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed

Talk in song from tongues of lilting grace
Sounds caress my ear
And not a word I heard could I relate
The story was quite clear

Oh, baby, I been blind
Oh, yeah, mama, there ain't no denyin'
Oh, ooh yes, I been blind
Mama, mama, ain't no denyin', no denyin'

All I see turns to brown
As the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand
As I scan this wasted land
Try to find, try to find the way I feel

Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace
Like sorts inside a dream
Leave the path that led me to that place
Yellow desert stream
Like Shangri-la beneath the summer moon
I will return again
As the dust that floats finds you
We're moving through Kashmir

Oh, father of the four winds fill my sails
Cross the sea of years
With no provision but an open face
Along the straits of fear
Oh, when I want, when I'm on my way, yeah
And my feet wear my fickle way to stay

Ooh, yeah yeah, oh, yeah yeah,
But I'm down oh, yeah yeah, oh, yeah
Yeah, but I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oh, my baby
Let me take you there

Come on, oh let me take you there
Let me take you there

Overall Meaning

"Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin is a song that speaks of the journey of a traveler who crosses boundaries of time and space to experience the unknown. The song has its roots in the mystic beauty of the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, and the lyrics invite the listener to an introspective journey. The opening lines, "Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face, and stars fill my dream," evoke the image of an adventurer who seeks to immerse himself in the wonders of the universe. The "gentle race" mentioned in the song are likely those who have attained enlightenment or spiritual ascendance, and the singer seeks to learn from their wisdom.

The song's second half speaks of a desert, where the scorching heat of the sun turns everything brown, and sand fills the singer's eyes. He is lost and seeks a way to find himself, to feel alive once again. The reference to a pilot of the storm who leaves no trace and a yellow desert stream seems to indicate the fleeting nature of the singer's journey, where each experience is transitory and evanescent.

It's no wonder why so many modern day bands struggle. The bar was just set so high...

@Mia7189

So true. I was a teenager in the 70's and I feel luck to have experienced Led Zeppelin in my formative years. I truly believe that Rock and Roll bands will never be this awesomely inspiring ever again. The entire music world is more about business and less about talent. Sad but true.

@juniorjohnson9509

Let's see arseholes like Beiber try to come up with something this good!

"The entire music world is more about business and less about talent."
Yeah, because consumers buy music because they like a specific song, why should anybody bother thinking about the required talent behind it when it is completely irrelevant to the listening pleasure?

@stormchii

+LouReu I am in the same situation as you. :(
