That's partly because the story is a modern twist on "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" (revised for the stage and screen as "Dangerous Liaisons"). At the end of the "Dangerous Liaisons", the Marquise de Merteuil (the character who served as the inspiration for Katheryn) is shown crying as she looks at herself in the mirror and removes all her carefully applied makeup after being publicly humiliated and shunned. Basically a mix of millennial and Gen X. A good example of a movie targeted at Gen X would the 80s John Hughes films like Breakfast club or Pretty in pink , Heathers 89, Singles 92 and even Clueless in 95 which was also definitely targeted at millennials too who were either little kids or preteens at the time like I was.

This movie scene brings be back so much nostalgia and it’s classic but I have to play devil’s advocate if this weren’t a movie. Catherine is corrupt and we see that, but the handling of the attacks against her by the school was no less disrespectful and inappropriate.

I hate to defend Catherine but here’s what should have happened:

Everyone listen to Catherine’s full speech without disruption out of respect for sibling of a person’s obituary. Regardless of the words said she deserves that respect even if it’s all lies, that can be investigated after her presenting on stage. After she is finished speaking, it would then be appropriate to ask if anyone else has something to add, at which point the other part is mentioned, followed by a private meeting between the persons mentioned in the booklet and Catherine and a right to not have Catherine present, in which case Catherine would have a chance to say her piece to the admin and/or to the other alleged victims, in order to get the testimony from all those people in the booklet, upon which disciplinary action subsequently would be dealt with at administrative level, including suspension for illegal substance use, or rehab, or further inquiries. Catherine’s right to fair rebuttal was missing.

I feel like Kathryn and Annette are the angel and devil on Sebastien's shoulder and I love how they interact with complete disgust for one another. Also I like how the scene plays out in the mirror because they are having a pleasant conversation but their facial expressions aren't pleasant.
