I'm not good with explaining songs/stories lol but bascially I've heard that it's about falling for a friend and not realizing it until they're already with someone but then you can't say anything because they're with someone. And time just passes by and things are okay but you know what you're missing. In this case Halsey said she was pregnant and devasted because he was with someone else, but they ended up being together. You should look up the meaning it's a really sweet song!
