<… Read Full Bio ↴Íon is a project founded by British musician Duncan Patterson in 2005.
Arguably classed as Patterson's most personal creation to date - a creation which he has fathered on his own, and one through which he taps deeper into his spiritual identity and heritage. This musical entity which Patterson has named after the Gaelic word for 'pure' - a word which accurately pins down the project's mindset - seems to elude strict categorization, and even the apparently all-encompassing definition of 'world music' falls short in defining the ethereal moods that "Madre, Protégenos", Íon's debut album, comes to reveal.
The second album, "Immaculada", released in 2010, continues his creative explorations.
Duncan Patterson's career traces back to the early 1990s, when he began his musical incursions as a member of Anathema, a group that would pioneer and remain as forerunners of the unique death doom metal genre throughout that decade.
Patterson would later also become involved with Antimatter, a project which would find him developing his age-old talent for emotional and atmospheric song-writing into new formats, and which he quit in late 2004 as the early sketches of what would later grow into Íon were drafted.

Immaculada
Íon Lyrics

Inmaculada.
Tu eres la esperanza, tu eres la voluntad, tu eres la salvacion.
Inmaculada
The first line of these lyrics - "Tu eres el caos, tu eres la luz" - can be interpreted as a juxtaposition of two opposing forces. Chaos is typically associated with disorder, unpredictability, and confusion, while light represents clarity, illumination, and understanding. The lyricist might be suggesting that this person, "Inmaculada," embodies both chaos and light, perhaps suggesting that they are complex, multilayered, and difficult to pin down.
The next set of lyrics - "Tu eres la esperanza, tu eres la voluntad, tu eres la salvacion" - build on this idea. "Inmaculada" is described as a source of hope, as someone who possesses the strength and determination to make things happen, and as a means of salvation, perhaps implying that they have the power to save others from turmoil or hardship. Taken together, these lyrics seem to be suggesting that "Inmaculada" is a powerful and enigmatic figure, one who contains both light and darkness within her and who can inspire and save others.
Overall, the lyrics to "Immaculada" are provocative and poetic, using metaphors and imagery to create a complex portrait of this mysterious and powerful figure, and leaving plenty of room for interpretation and analysis.
