Just played this for my 9 year old daughter in the car this morning and shared my love of Joan Jett with her. Told her this song came out when I was almost her age and how it changed everything for me- girls didn’t have to just sing, we could rock, too!! Showed her pictures of Joan Jett and explained just how badass she was and is (The Runaways, too!) Got to see Joan in concert once and she was so great! I think this was 1981/1982. MTV was launched and watched it non stop. I think I was a 7th grader and loved this song and this video. Still rocking today. Instead of that 12 year old I am now 54. Killer tune and killer video. Thanks JJ&BH

Let's pay our respects to Alan Merrill who wrote and originally performed this song with his band, The Arrows, in 1975. He passed away this week from COVID-19. If it wasn't for his song, Joan Jett wouldn't have had a monster hit on her hands.

This song became popular in 1981 but it was a cover of the Arrows version published in 1975, the singer was a young groupie who just heard it on an Arrows concert and fell in love with it and decided to make it popular but it wasn't easy, the song has been published different times and it finally reached the fame when she created her own house and this videoclip was released. Alan Merrill the original writer of the song died recently due to Coronavirus complications, Joan Jett remembered him in a touching post.

Nearly 18y years ago in Hospital waiting on my partner giving birth to my baby girl. I was asked to leave the room minutes after my daughter was born, where I was sat alone in a small room, this song played over the radio.
