Price Tag
Ólafur Arnalds Lyrics

Coconut man, moon head, and pea
You ready?

Seems like everybody's got a price
I wonder how they sleep at night
When the sale comes first
And the truth comes second
Just stop for a minute and smile
Why is everybody so serious
Acting so damn mysterious
Got shades on your eyes
And your heels so high that you can't even have a good time

Everybody look to their left
Everybody look to their right
Can you feel that, yeah
We're paying with love tonight
It's not about the money money money
We don't need your money money money
We just wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag
Ain't about the uh cha-ching cha-ching
Ain't about the yeah b-bling b-bling
Wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

We need to take it back in time
When music made us all unite
And it wasn't low blows and video hoes
Am I the only the one getting tired
Why is everybody so obsessed
Money can't buy us happiness
Can we all slow down and enjoy right now
Guarantee we'll be feeling alright

Everybody look to their left
Everybody look to their right
Can you feel, yeah
We're paying with love tonight

It's not about the money money money
We don't need your money money money
We just wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag
Ain't about the uh cha-ching cha-ching
Ain't about the yeah b-bling b-bling
Wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

Well keep the price tag
And take the cash back
Just give me six strings
And a half stack
And you can, can keep the cars
Leave me the garage
And all I, yes all I need are keys and guitars
And guess what, in thirty seconds I'm leaving to Mars
Yeah we leaping across these undefeatable odds
It's like this man, you can't put a price on the life
We do this for the love so we fight and sacrifice every night
So we ain't gonna stumble and fall never
Waiting to see us in a sign of defeat uh uh
So we gonna keep everyone moving they feet
So bring back the beat and then everyone sing
It's not about the money

It's not about the money money money
We don't need your money money money
We just wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag
Ain't about the uh cha-ching cha-ching
Ain't about the yeah b-bling b-bling
Wanna make the world dance
Forget about the price tag

Yeah yeah forgot the price tag

Overall Meaning

The song "Price Tag" by Ólafur Arnalds is a commentary on the power of money and materialism in society. The lyrics suggest that we have lost sight of what is truly important in life and have become too obsessed with material wealth, leading to a lack of happiness and fulfillment. The coconut man, moon head, and pea at the beginning of the song represent the idea that we are all unique and different, but society tries to make us conform to a certain standard.

The lyrics talk about how people prioritize money over everything else, even truth and honesty. The line "When the sale comes first, And the truth comes second" implies that people will do anything to make a profit. It also touches on the idea that people wear masks and try to appear mysterious or glamorous with flashy clothing and accessories, but in reality, they may not be happy. The song calls for people to take a step back and focus on the important things in life, such as love and unity through the power of music.

ICELAND: Such a small country. But so full of magnificence.

Conductor gets me every time. Everyone looking pensive/serious/sullen, dude is like "YEEEEAAAHHH"

@jonathanselander5094

i love how conductors act the emotions of music

@followingtheroe1952

The conductor was basically me reacting to each time a new voice/instrument was added. He was celebrating the genius of the arrangements layering.

That's a really interesting read. I've always wondered why music is so powerful to me and how it can make you feel so good (or sad) I've also wondered if there is anybody that has never experienced 'frissons' and finding out that some people don't is sad for them. The piece in the article that really got me was the part about predicting the melody because this has happened to me so many times, when a song you're listening to does that certain key change and the goosebumps start. Thanks for sharing this!

One of the many songs that show, to me, that Olafur Arnalds is the best musician alive. All the joy, sadness, beauty, sublimity and heartbreak of this world and our souls in the form of music. He is an artist in the true sense of the word. May God protect him and allow him to continue making this world a better place through these incredible pieces.
