He first wanted to study drums, but couldn't due to the lack of a drum teacher in Nicosia. Instead, he studied guitar. For the first twenty years of his life, he lived in a Nicosia suburb. After his military service, he went off to Greece to study theatre. He also entered the University of Athens to study philosophy, which he later gave up. He was more successful in his theatre studies where he played some major roles in well known Greek tragedies such as Alkistis.
When he was twentythree he recorded Στην αγορά του κόσμου (In the Market of the World), with lyrics and music written by N. Zoudiaris. This demo tape eventually reached the hands of a well known singer, Δήμητρα Γαλάνη (Dimitra Galani). She instantly became fond of their music and Alkinoos' voice, and helped them get a record deal.
Alkinoos and Zoudiaris followed with another album called Οπως μυστικά και ησυχα (As Secretly and Quietly). Both albums went gold.
From 1993 to 1997 he toured frequently in support of other artists, including one of the most important female figures of Greek music, Ελευθερία Αρβανιτάκη (Eleftheria Arvanitaki). He also carried out one solo tour.
Ioannidis rarely appears to give interviews or take part in television shows. His primary public appearance consists of concert tours that he gives every year in locations around Greece and Cyprus.
In 1997 his first self-written album, Ο δρόμος, ο χρόνος και ο πόνος (The Street, the Time, and the Pain), was released to critical praise. The cover to was painted by his father. His subsequent albums have also had their covers painted by his father.
In 1999 he released another self-written album, Ανεμοδείκτης (Weathervane). In 2000 he released a double-disc live album, Εκτός τόπου και χρόνου (Out of Space and Time). In 2004, he released Οι περιπέτειες ενός προσκυνητή (The Adventures of a Pilgrim). It was a popular and critical hit. In April 2006, he released an album of Cypriot folk songs, 'Πού δύσην ώς ανατολήν (From West to East), with fellow Cypriot musician, violinist Μιλτιάδης Παπαστάμου (Miltiadis Papastamou). On 9th March 2009, he released the album Νεροποντή (Downpour).
Αλκίνοος Ιωαννίδης Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Πόσες φορές να σου το πω, πόσες να στο μηνύσω;
Να σου το πω ψιθυριστά ή να στο τραγουδήσω;
In "Ο κόσμος που αλλάζει," Αλκίνοος Ιωαννίδης paints a metaphorical portrait of change as a tree with deep roots that cast a great shadow. He highlights how a tree can celebrate life as it spreads its branches, and how a person's gaze reveals their inner feelings. The singer of the song questions how to express themselves to another person about the fear they feel towards the world where everything seems to be changing around them. The song ends with a call to choose one's own fate, likening it to the way music selects its words and lyrics.
The lyrics of “Ο κόσμος που αλλάζει” reflect the universal theme of change and the unknown, which can be a source of anxiety for some individuals. Throughout the song, the tree is used as a symbol of growth and transformation, as well as a reminder of the resilience of nature. It also highlights the beauty of embracing life and all its changes, and choosing one's own destiny.
The poetic and profound lyrics of “Ο κόσμος που αλλάζει” have made it one of the most pivotal songs of the Greek music scene. It has been performed by numerous artists in various styles and included in several films and theatrical productions, and has become known as a Greek anthem for change.

The sorrow is a big tree, and its shade is also big. It extends its roots into the soul, and its branches into the body.
But just as a bird spreads its wings in the air, the tree becomes a celebration, and the day flutters.
Πόσες φορές να σου το πω, πόσες να στο μηνύσω; Να σου το πω ψιθυριστά ή να στο τραγουδήσω;
How many times do I have to tell you, how many times do I have to inform you? Shall I whisper it to you or sing it to you?
I will whisper it to you, like the eyes speak, which hide all the blood inside the silence of the world.
This world that is changing, how does it seem to you, how does it resemble you?
This world that is changing, it scares me, it scares me.
So we seem lost in the circle of death, in the frost of the definitive, in the fear of the invisible.
But you will be lost definitively, only if you choose it, just like music chooses the words and the phrases.

Big tree the sigh, big and its shadow
spreads its roots into the soul and its branches to the body
But as abird opens its wings on the air
the tree becomes a feast nad and the day flaps
How many times should I say it to you, how many to send it
Should I whisper it or sing it to you?
I shall whisper it, like the glance talks
that hides into the silence all the world's blood.
This world that changes
how much does it resemble you,how much does it resemble you
This world that changes
scares me, scares me
So, we seem lost into the round of death
the cold of the definitive, the terror of the invisible
But you will be lost forever, only if it's your choice
like music chooses the words
This world that changes
how much does it resemble you,how much does it resemble you
This world that changes
scares me, scares me
