Marathon Man
ЎMayday! Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Is anybody out there?
Is anybody down to run?
Spectators in their lawn chairs
While we're waiting for the starting gun
We all know we've got to move soon
We all know why we're here
So let's try and live this moment
For a couple hundred thousand years
I'm focused now
And so's the crowd
Hit by the sound
Feet meet concrete and we bounce

(Run!)
Short breaths as I go
(Run!)
Forget everything I know
(Run!)
Become one with the road
I know I felt this before

Marathon man, keeping pace, making time
Went so fast that I've got a runner's high
Can't come down before I cross the finish line
Cause I've gotta win the race, man, I can't lag behind
I'm a marathon man, keeping pace, making time
Went so fast that I've got a runner's high
Can't come down before I cross the finish line
Man I've gotta win the race cause I got rat's behind

Is anybody watchin'?
Is anybody seein' this?
All I heard was the explosion
And now I can't even feel my fist
Smoke all around my eyelids
Lady can't find her kid
It's so loud it seems silent
But I'm still trying to reach the end
They're on the ground
And screaming now
I can't go down
The flight carries me from the sound

(Run!)
Blood pouring on the road
(Run!)
Despite everything I know
(Run!)
I can't let them change my course
I run until I can't go on

Marathon man, keeping pace, making time
Went so fast that I've got a runner's high
Can't come down before I cross the finish line
Cause I've gotta win the race, man, I can't lag behind
I'm a marathon man, keeping pace, making time
Went so fast that I've got a runner's high
Can't come down before I cross the finish line
Man I've gotta win the race cause I got rat's behind

Nice to see recognition for this movie from '76. Great cast, solid story. Olivier almost didn't make the picture due to health problems but recovered to play one of the most despicable villains in film.

Great movie

@TonyJBroni

Saw this for the first time over the weekend. This is just so good. How she screams "my God, he gets away" in such despair, while Szell is claustrophobically stuffed in the camera knowing that she sees his true face.

Yes, Jewish writers

@firefightergoggie

Laurence Olivier played this roll so well. One of the scariest movie villains of all time.

@jubalcalif9100

I have a notion to second that emotion ! One of the screen's great nogoodniks ! And the late great Larry Olivier is sheer perfection in the role !

@kdohertygizbur

I don't think he was all that great and the movie was so so. Not having read the book, you have no indication why Babe's brother is in cahoots with Szell and he looks scared not evil.

@wm5006

I like bread rolls.

@garyroberts1496

Yes he's completely sinister
