This lineup remained intact until 2003, when keyboardist Shirai Mikio left the band. The following year ↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓ cut their ties to Universal Music, and Koumoto and Mashima formed HAPPYSONG RECORDS, their very own record label with ties to BMG Japan, which has since distributed their releases. After announcing their disbandment in late 2005, Koumoto and Mashima decided to form another punk rock band together, and ended up naming it ザ・クロマニヨンズ (The Cro-Magnons).

These lyrics are from the Japanese band ↑THE HIGH-LOWS↓'s song "青春" (Seishun) which means "Youth" in English. The song is about the experiences of youth and the emotions associated with them. The song starts with the lines "I forgot the song I learned during the winter, only the oil in the stove remains. Sharp like an icicle, it glows and melts gradually, just like the dregs of intense emotion." These lines seem to be indicative of the memories that the author has from his youth which are hazy and have faded over time.
The song goes on to describe various memories of youth, such as playing the piano in the music room in a Jerry Lee Lewis style, getting into a fight with some seniors in the walkway and getting beaten up, and the pain and injury resulting from the fight. The lyrics also touch upon the theme of a heartless kindness that resembles defeat and the chaos and frenzy that the author experiences.
Later in the song, the author talks about picking sour Himelin (Japanese apple) from a corner of the playground and how the mix of summer and his crush's scent makes him excited. The author also expresses a desire for time to stop when he is with his crush on a bench under the blue sky, during the climax of the song. Overall, the lyrics of the song "青春" convey the mixed emotions of youth, steeped in nostalgia and fondness for the experiences of the past.

たった３分１３秒の曲なのに短編小説を読み終えた後のような世界観が広がる。歌詞と歌詞の間を、聞く人がメロディの流れに任せて想像することによって完成するような本当に素晴らしい曲だと思う。永遠に好きだ。
